The Acolyte might lead to a major prequels connection after Leslye Headland confirmed one major character’s fate.

The Acolyte is quickly approaching its conclusion with just one episode left in its first season. However, creator Leslye Headland has already hinted at plans for a second installment. During an interview, Headland also seemingly confirmed the fate of one supporting character who could play a larger role in season 2.

Mother Koril, one of the witches of Brendok and the mother of Osha and Mae, died under mysterious circumstances. As a result, fans have been speculating if she could have survived and played a larger role in the story. Headland has not only suggested that Koril is still alive, but also hinted at how her story could connect to Darth Maul.

The Acolyte Creator Leslye Headland Confirms Mother Koril Isn’t Dead

The Acolyte episode 3 introduced the character of Mother Koril played by actress Margarita Levieva. Koril is a female Zabrak and a member of Mother Aniseya’s witch coven on Brendok. She is the one who carried Mae and Osha until their birth after they were created using the Force.

In the third episode, it is hinted that Koril died during the massacre of the coven after Jedi intervention. The same events are revisited in the seventh episode from a different perspective but Koril’s dead body isn’t seen among the massacred witches.

During an interview with Nerdist, creator Leslye Headland was asked about Koril’s ambiguous fate and seemingly confirmed that the witch was still alive. She said:

No body, no death. That’s what I’ll say about that one.

Headland’s statement hints that Koril is still alive and has a larger role to play in the overall narrative.

At the same time, Headland was also asked whether Koril’s survival meant that she was somehow connected with the mysterious Stranger/ Qimir, who attempts to recruit Mae and then Osha to his cause. However, Headland debunked Koril working with Qimir from the shadows.

Leslye Headland Teases The Acolyte‘s Mother Koril and Darth Maul Connection

In the interview, Headland hinted that if the series received a second season, she would like to explore more of Koril’s story, especially what happened to her after the events on Brendok. She said:

But what I will say, as a tease, if we are able to explore this story more, her species will tell you a little bit about where she ends up.

Headland’s comment seemingly hints at the planet of Dathomir, the homeworld of another witch coven, the Nightsisters, who are of the same species as Koril.

Although Headland has confirmed that the coven on Brendok wasn’t related to the Nightsisters, it is possible that Koril could travel to Dathomir after she is presumed dead and end up joining the group. Headland’s words also suggest that Koril could be linked to Darth Maul.

During the Clone Wars, Darth Sidious worked with Mother Talzin, who united the Nightsister clans. However, Talzin’s son, Maul was abducted by Sidious and trained as a Sith apprentice until he was presumed dead after a battle with Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Meanwhile, Talzin was aware of Maul’s death and plotted revenge on Sidious. Talzin’s story seems to have parallels with Koril, who likely thought that at least one of her twins died during the altercation with the Jedi on Brendok. As a result, Talzin and Koril could be related in some manner with the latter seeking revenge on the Jedi.

However, it is important to note that while Koril is a Zabrak, she belongs to the Iridonian race, which is different from the Dathomiran Zabraks, with Talzin and Maul belonging to the latter race. Nonetheless, Headland’s statement suggests Koril’s character could provide a major payoff in the long run.
