The graphic novel adaptation of Frank Herbert’s Dune has not only delivered a release date but also a preview. Dune: The Graphic Novel, Book 3: The Prophet will showcase the battle of Arrakis. This will be the final volume from Abrams ComicArts – a subdivision of Abrams Books – in what has been a very faithful adaptation with the aid of Herbert’s son, Brian Herbert.

Dune: The Graphic Novel, Book 3 has the creative team of Kevin J. Anderson, Brian Herbert, Raúl Allén, Patricia Martin Samaniego, and Jesús R. Pastrana. This concluding volume, spanning 200 pages, will present Paul Atreides’ push to maintain control of Arrakis with the threat of the Harkonnens becoming ever more dangerous.

The previous volumes detailed Paul’s arrival on Arrakis and his life with the Fremen. Now, the conclusion of this first novel adaptation will be presented, highlighting the hero’s leadership skill and hesitation to take control of the planet due to the prophecy surrounding him.

Dune Graphic Novel Will Include Epic Conclusion of Original Novel

Slated for release in July, Dune: The Graphic Novel Book 3 is perfect for fans of the classic sci-fi story, and the broader franchise. Forbes shared a preview of the volume. This collective adaptation has maintained Frank Herbert’s original narrative structure, dividing the first novel into three distinct parts adapted in each published volume. It has paired Herbert’s son with Kevin J. Anderson, who has written prequel novels within the Dune universe, and several other science fiction and comic projects. These include Tales of the Jedi, Dark Lords of the Sith, and comics based on the Dune prequels published by BOOM! Studios. The synopsis is as follows:

The final battle for Arrakis is swiftly approaching. Paul Atreides has accepted his role as the leader of the Fremen but knows his power over them teeters on the brink – they will either take back their planet or lead a jihad that will consume the entire cosmos. Lady Jessica has become a Reverend Mother and must balance her support of her son with the expectations of the Bene Gesserit Order. Meanwhile, Baron Harkonnen has continued to groom his cunning nephew, Feyd-Rautha, to rule the desert planet. All their destinies collide in an epic finale that will change Arrakis – and the universe – forever.

The mythos of the world of Dune is incredibly expansive, leaving lots of room for new adaptations and stories. Thus far, Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson’s works have been well-suited to comics. The sci-fi epic has received numerous comic adaptations over the last few years from BOOM! Studios, including Dune: A Whisper of Caladan Seas, Dune: Blood of the Sardaukar, Dune: House Atreides, Dune: House Corrino, Dune: House Harkonnen, Dune: Tales from Arrakeen and Dune: The Waters of Kanly. This adaptation from Abrams Books may not be a prequel or sequel expansion, but its delivery of the original story has thus far been well-received.

Frank Herbert’s Son Celebrates Artists on Dune Graphic Novel Adaptation

Brian Herbert shared his enthusiasm about this Dune project, saying, “The third volume of our Dune graphic novel adaptation is such a wonderful grand finale, even bigger and more spectacular than the previous two volumes.
