Despite all the differences, the actor’s other famous character would probably feel just fine in Westeros.
House of the Dragon ’s Matt Smith is set to come back as Daemon Targaryen in the show’s upcoming second season that’s just a week away from landing on streaming, and this time the character will surely be nothing like we saw him in the first season.
Usually quite unhinged, yet still villainous and relentless in his determination to do good for his family (but mostly himself), Daemon will come back as a quiet support for Rhaenyra who is set to change her gowns and jewelry for a shield and a sword.
Ahead of those major changes that House of the Dragon season 2 will bring alongside its full-scale war between the Blacks and the Greens, the actor reflected on what it would be like for his other iconic character to be transported to Game of Thrones ’ universe, and, even given his total inconsistency with George R.R. Martin’s cruel fantasy world, Smith is reassured he would definitely find his place in Westeros.
During House of the Dragon season 2 premiere that took place recently, Smith was asked whether he had ever thought about how his Eleventh Doctor from a BBC long-standing sci-fi show Doctor Who would feel had he somehow been brought to Westeros.
It didn’t take too much time for the actor to think as he was quick to come up with a suggestion that the first thing his Doctor would do is to “get himself on a dragon at some point”, alluding to the character’s childlike and buoyant personality.
However, Smith also added that he could picture Doctor being free of any fear that the Blacks could’ve possibly struck in him saying that he “might whip them all into shape, to be honest. I’d quite like to see the Doctor sort Daemon Targaryen out. Who knows? But, you know, The Doctor would come in and create his own sense of chaos, I have no doubt”.
The actor’s personal ideas about such an unfeasible crossover could actually do some good for the Targaryens amidst their fight for the ultimate power. Smith’s Doctor is surely known for his mundane wisdom that could’ve even had some chances to help stop the war, yet so far it seems like not a single person will dare to talk the divided family out of the whole rivalry idea.
House of the Dragon’s second season is coming to Max on June 16.
