An orc in Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
A new set photo from The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 2 reveals a terrifying new orc. Amazon Prime Video’s series is mainly based on The Lord of the Rings appendices but set thousands of years prior during the Second Age of Middle Earth. Since Rings of Power season 2 started filming in the United Kingdom as early as October 2022, multiple set photos have surfaced online revealing an Elven city, a supposed Fëanor statue, and the return of Isildur. Now, as The Rings of Power season 2 continues filming, another set photo has surfaced online from Fellowship of Fans on Twitter, revealing a terrifying new orc. Check it out below:

The Rings of Power season 2 set photo was taken at Swinley Forest in Ascot and shows an armored orc wielding a double-sided scythe-like weapon.

The Rings of Power Season 2 Orc Design Continues To Impress

Orcs holding torches in Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power.

The Rings of Power season 2 set photo continues to showcase the show’s commitment to creating its orcs practically, just like Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy. The television series is set thousands of years prior, after the War of Wrath almost wiped out the Orcs to the point of extinction, and they are only starting to reemerge from hiding. This is the reason for their scavenger-like appearance in season 1, but based on the season 2 set photo, the show appears to moving away from this as the Orcs acquire more manufactured weapons and armor.

Previously led by Adar (who was recast as Sam Hazeldine), Sauron will presumably take control of the Orcs in Mordor in season 2. As indicated by the set photo, the show will continue evolving the Orcs’ design as Sauron shapes them into a formidable fighting force to perpetuate his destructive agenda. Hopefully, more looks at Sauron’s terrifying orc army emerge as The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 2 continues filming ahead of its expected 2024 release date.
