The show’s only been complete a week. Renewals don’t often come out this fast
The Acolyte just completed last week, and there have been campaigns on social media from fans calling for the renewal of the show. However, showrunner and creator Leslye Headland might be dousing those hopeful flames a bit… until you actually look at the data as well as trends from past Star Wars series.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Headland shared that she has heard “nothing” about Season 2, making a zero with her hands in the interview. Though, she’s not upset about that, saying, “You have to take a break. Especially after something like this. I don’t even know how many years my brain has been going, Star Wars, Star Wars, Star Wars, Acolyte, Acolyte, Acolyte — just constantly solving problems, constantly thinking about it. It is very weird to now be in a place where I don’t need to do that. I always say to budding writers, ‘The most important thing that you can do is sit around and do nothing. Because the second you start to manufacture a story, you’re going to get stressed out, and the story can’t start that way.'”
This also doesn’t mean she’s stopped musing about what might come down the line, sharing the insight, “My brain is still doing it. It’s almost like if you’re running, you can’t just stop, can’t shut off.”
It’s no surprise we haven’t heard about a second season yet for The Acolyte. While not always the case, as some series will often be picked up multiple seasons at a time, it’s often at a much later date when a show announces another season. It took almost 3 months before Ahsoka Season 2 was announced. So I’m not sweating it when only a week has passed.
