George R.R. Martin gets slammed by fans after he overpraised House of the Dragon.
The previous episodes of House of the Dragon Season 2 were filled with intense brutality that certainly shocked and made everyone’s stomach turn. That’s a trademark of the show, after all, and author George R.R. Martin seemed very pleased so far with its progress.

Some fans aren’t that impressed, though, and some do not agree with the author’s take on specific aspects. They believed Martin’s praise for the show wasn’t genuine at all.
George R.R. Martin Compared The Kingsguard Twins Fight To One Iconic Game Of Thrones Duel
In his latest website entry, Fire & Blood author George R.R. Martin showered praises for the show and the cast members. He particularly mentioned the real-life twins Elliot and Luke Tittensor who played Sers Erryk and Arryk Cargyll for their fierce duel on the recent episode.
The Tittensor twins were terrific as the Kingsguard twins, and their climactic swordfight is right up there with the Mountain and the Red Viper of Dorne, and Brienne’s fight with Jaime Lannister.
In Episode 2 entitled Rhaenyra the Cruel, Ser Criston Cole ordered Ser Arryk Cargyll to infiltrate Dragonstone and disguise himself as his brother, Ser Erryk, in order to slay Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen. The twins ended up confronting each other which resulted in a bloody duel, injuring both of them until they perished.
The author suggested that this scene is on the same level as the unforgettable clash between Prince Oberyn “The Viper” Martell and Ser Gregor “Mountain” Clegane from Game of Thrones.
In King’s Landing, The Viper showed confidence that he could defeat the Mountain, especially since he volunteered to be Tyrion Lannister’s champion during a trial by combat, but also as an act of revenge. He accused the Mountain of murdering his sister, Elia, and her children, and demanded a confession.

As their duel ensued, Oberyn managed to injure the Mountain by stabbing him with a spear in his chest and stomach, but when the latter found an opening, he tripped his opponent and finally got the upper hand. When The Viper was already down on the ground, the Mountain gouged Oberyn’s eyes out and crushed his skull, leaving the audience stupefied.
This is the scene that Martin compares with the fight between the Kingsguard twins, which, in all honesty, does not measure up to the first one at all.

Fans are now calling out the Game of Thrones author after he made commendations on House of the Dragon. Some fans urge him to be honest about his opinions, while others wonder what made him conjure up such comparisons, especially the Kingsguard fight vs. The Viper and Mountain. Check out their reactions below:
Nothing to say on the fact how much they butchered Jace and his arc? Or Baela and Rhaena?
It’s okay George. You can criticize the show.

Relax george

I wonder how he comes to compare the twin fight to the Viper & the Mountain. That scene was ICONIC in part bc we were so invested in the Prince. It’s like trying to put Blood & Cheese in the same category as the Red Wedding. Um, no.

It sounds like he’s not completely happy with how the writers are changing major plot lines but he’s keeping it cute for now lol

B&C was bad, Jace is being butchered, Dragontwins are butchered, and more. Don’t be shy George. Criticize all of it.

In the same post, Martin pointed out that the most criticized part of the show was the Blood and Cheese episode, which he promised to address at another time. Perhaps this time the author would finally make some criticisms – who knows?
House of the Dragon is available to watch on HBO.
