Stars like Antony Starr, Erin Moriarty, Karl Urban, and Jack Quaid, to name a few, each bring their A-game to the series. Moriarty, who plays Starlight, once shared the fascinating story of how she landed her role, and compared the grueling process to running a marathon! Here is why!

How Erin Moriarty Landed the Role of Starlight?

In a chat with Metro about their auditions for the life-changing Prime Video series The Boys, the cast spilled the beans.

Erin Moriarty, a fan favorite for her role as Starlight, shared that while she had a blast during most of her audition, the screen testing process was a bit like a never-ending rollercoaster ride, fun, but definitely intense! She revealed,

So I got the audition for this and weirdly enough one of the indications it would be one of the roles that would be right for me was my first audition was a self tape and I had so much fun doing it. It made me want the role more. —I screen tested with our showrunner [Eric Kripke] and honestly it felt like running a marathon. It went on for an hour and a half long, we had me do each scene six or seven times in a tonne of different ways.

Erin Moriarty openly admitted that despite the rigorous process, she was uncertain about how her screen test had gone. Shortly after, Eric Kripke, the show’s creator, took her aside and offered encouraging words, suggesting it might not have gone as poorly as she feared. Truth be told, it’s hard to imagine anyone else in the role now. She further added,

I walked out of the screen test and he took me outside privately and said, “Just so you know, no matter what happens, no matter what the studio decides, creatively we’re rooting for you and I’m rooting for you and I want you for this”

Erin Moriarty plays Starlight in the series, a superhero who brings both light to the screen and electric chemistry with her co-stars. Throughout the series, Starlight navigates the darker realities of the superhero industry, facing moral dilemmas and personal challenges, Starlight is truly one of the best, morally good characters the show has to offer.

Erin Moriarty’s First Interaction with Eric Kripke, the Creator of The Boys

Well, this wasn’t Eric Kripke’s first time creating a globally recognized cultural phenomenon. He previously created Supernatural, which debuted in 2005 and ran for 15 seasons, becoming an enduring cultural staple.

Kripke’s leadership on Supernatural established him as a master storyteller in the realm of supernatural and genre television.

For Erin Moriarty, as she revealed in the same Metro interview, working with him was certainly a uniquely memorable experience. She said,

He’s specific and demanding – and rightly so because he has such a clear image of what he wants. He likes to play with actors and get a lot of variations. He’s the hardest working person I’ve ever met, he’s not lazy and he expects that from his actors, which is great.–if I didn’t get the role I would have walked away and had respect for Kripke regardless.
