The Mountain and the Viper Turns 10 And Oberyn’s Brutal Death Still Traumatizes Fans
Game of Thrones was very on-point in the casting department since the start. Season 4 saw the debut of Pedro Pascal into the beloved franchise as Oberyn Martell aka the Viper. The character is introduced as he arrives to attend Joffrey’s wedding at King’s Landing. Oberyn is determined by vengeance and hatred for the Lannisters for having a hand in his sister Elia’s rape and murder.
The events intensify as Joffrey is killed by poisoning and Tyrion is blamed for it. As he declares a trial by combat, the crown chooses Gregor ‘The Mountain’ Clegane as their champion. Cleagane was the one who killed Elia and thus Oberyn volunteers to fight for Tyrion to exact his revenge. This led to the episode titled The Mountain and the Viper referring to their face-off.
The eighth episode of the fourth season saw an intense battle between the two, with Oberyn initially gaining the upper hand and injuring Gregor with his poisoned spear. However, his light distraction causes his downfall as Gregor subdues him and gouges his eyes out. Gregor shockingly crushes his skull, as the spectators watch in horror.
It has been 10 years since that episode dropped in 2014 and fans are still shocked that the franchise managed to pull off such a bloody and shocking death of Pascal’s character. Remembering the shocking episode is still traumatizing for them as they reflect on the episode on X,

Pedro Pascal Wanted to Work With Celine Song So Bad After Seeing Past Lives
Pedro Pascal was a big fan of Celine Song’s Past Lives | A24
Celine Song’s Past Lives was certainly one of the best films of 2023 and it marked the directorial debut of Song. She is currently making her sophomore film titled Materialists with Chris Evans, Dakota Johnson, and Pedro Pascal. The latter was asked by GQ about why he jumped on the opportunity to work with Song.
Pascal provided a simple answer which was that Past Lives was one of the best films he’d seen in years. He and Song became very good friends and he was ready to do anything for her. Working with an incredible talent like her was a goal Pascal was lucky to have achieved. The actor said,
Past Lives is one of the best movies I’ve seen in years, number one. There’s that simple answer. I met Celine and we became fast friends before the idea of ever working together. It really came down to it being, anything that she may or may not want me to do, I’d be willing to do it as an artist and as a friend. Working with that caliber of talent is the goal ultimately, and so I’m the lucky one for sure.
The rom-com is currently shooting and there is good hype for the film among audiences who have watched Past Lives. The film is once again distributed by A24 and will probably hit theatres sometime next year.
