Fans might never see what happens after The Night King is finally defeated.
Years after the original show came to its end, the Game of Thrones franchise keeps thriving and planning more installments for many years to come, with House of the Dragon ’s second season airing right now and another compelling spinoff being in the works.
Ever since Game of Thrones’ launch back in 2011, George R.R. Martin’s fantastic universe came as a storehouse for a myriad of potential future shows exploring the history of the most powerful and wealthiest dynasties in Westeros.
However, with all the attention for the fictional land’s past, there’s almost no way to ever see what fans have been curious about all these years.
Having wrapped its story up back in 2019, Game of Thrones was quickly followed by 2022 House of the Dragon that gives a sneak peek into the life of House Targaryen 200 years before there was no one left but Daenerys showing up as yet another challenger for the Iron Throne.
Another upcoming spinoff, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, based on Martin’s novellas The Tales of Dunk and Egg, will also take its viewers back in time exploring the events that take place some 90 years before the events of Game of Thrones.
Lastly, three more shows titled Aegon’s Conquest, The Sea Snake/Nine Voyages and Ten Thousand Ships are currently in the works at HBO, but all of those mentioned appear to have one big issue. And this issue could have been resolved by yet another series that was canceled.
Back in April, fans’ hearts got shattered when it was announced that Game of Thrones’ spinoff about Kit Harington’s Jon Snow and his future beyond the Wall was officially scrapped, though nobody denied that the idea might be revived sometime in a couple of years.
Ironically, the only spinoff that eventually got ditched by HBO could have been a real breakthrough for the whole franchise, since it would be the first series to follow the events after Game of Thrones’ finale.
Considering that George R.R. Martin’s book series constantly dwells on Aegon the Conqueror’s prophecy saying that Westeros will be prospering after the White Walkers are defeated, everything that happens right after Arya Stark kills The Night King is truly compelling material that could potentially have Game of Thrones’ fans of many years glued to their screens once again.
Now that Jon Snow’s spinoff isn’t happening, the chances for the fans to see Westeros’ bright future seem to be incredibly low, and they will remain so for at least several upcoming years.
