Another big mystery might have served specifically for a major character’s passing.
House of the Dragon ’s intense action and ruthless fights are finally back in the show’s second season that has just seemingly got as close to the full-scale war as possible.
The brand new installment’s episode 4 symbolically titled A Dance of the Dragons saw the first grand battle unfolding between the Blacks’ Rhaenys and the Greens’ King Aegon, which eventually results in both characters’ failure when Aemond and his gigantic dragon Vhagar intervene.
Rhaenys’s tragic death after she almost left the Greens with a major loss in the upcoming war came as an utter shock, yet it still helped many fans point out another big problem regarding the series’ dragons.
In the episode, Rhaenys and Aegon are shown riding their dragons towards the battlefield, not knowing yet that Aemond is about to enter the scene as well.
Now, everyone has already seen that Aemond’s dragon Vhagar is the largest living dragon and, what’s more striking, probably could even beat many castles in Westeros when it comes to the size.
Vhagar first shows up alongside her master while being disguised in a local forest and then is seen bringing down Aegon’s Sunfyre and Rhaenys’ Meleys, with the latter eventually trying to flee and failing, chased and killed by Vhagar.
Having witnessed a major plot twist that is very likely to heat things up once again, fans were quick to get together on social media.
Many agreed that Aemond’s dragon’s size would never allow her to go unnoticed literally anywhere, hence Rhaenys not seeing her coming looks pretty much weird. Others also stressed that it would take much longer for a giant like Vhagar to fly high and that fast towards the ocean.
As one user stated, “they can hide the biggest dragon a couple football fields away and not get caught. Furthermore the dragon takes forever to get off the ground. So you’re gonna tell me after hitting the ground.. the biggest dragon got up in under 10 seconds. Flew around the field. To the ocean. Without being seen. And did it in 10 seconds.”
Since George R.R. Martin’s novels never really gave a real explanation of the dragons’ life, habits and abilities, House of the Dragon’s yet another weird plot hole may have just joined a long list of all the ambiguous things that the show and its predecessor Game of Thrones have ever stated about the fantastic creatures.
However desperate would fans be to find a reasonable clarification, none of them would most likely work in a fictional land like Westeros.
