‘House of the Dragon’ season 2 concluded today with the final and eighth episode, and the reactions are not good at all. The episode was a slow one and basically served as a prequel trailer for season 3. Tyland Lannister is securing the Triarchy for the cause of the Greens- which we will see come to fruition in season 3. Daemon is ready to swear his loyalty to Rhaenyra, which we will see in season 3. Rhaenyra and Alicent come to a game-changing agreement – which we will see in season 3.
Despite all the talk of war, no war is actually seen in season 2. If it weren’t for the Battle of Rook’s Rest, the whole season could be summarized as one long council meeting with some dragon action sprinkled in between.
The most criticized aspect of the season so far is the fact that Daemon did pretty much nothing as it was clear that the showrunners had no idea what to do with him this season. Since utilizing Daemon fully would force them to shoot some action.
Fans noted that season 2 felt like a trailer for season 3, and it’s one helluva trailer that’s going to have to last us until 2026 at the minimum, considering the break between season 1 and season 2.
However, this is really nothing unexpected. Take into account that the show is based on the book ‘Fire & Blood.’ The book itself does not deal with ‘Dance of Dragons’ completely, it deals with the history of the Targaryen family in general, only 50 or so pages actually deal with the Dance of Dragons. This means that there are limited events to recount and adapt, so the showrunners are forced to stall and delay for as long as possible, creating filler upon filler upon filler.
The first season was much faster-paced due to covering 20 or so years of developments that preceded the Dance of the Dragons, now that they are actually forced to adapt the event on screen, you will find that only a few battles have been described on the pages of the source material and you can’t exactly show them all in one season.
It’s already been reported that one major battle has been moved from season 2 to the upcoming season 3, meaning that the battle that took Rhaenys’ life is the only action we’ve seen this season.
You can check out the reactions of fans yourself, and subjectively, I agree with most of them:
Did I just watch a 70 minute trailer for Season 3? #HouseOfThedragon pic.twitter.com/Mpo0OTpltP

Worst fucking finale I’ve ever seen

The season lacked something. There was no like passion or emotion. I just felt like every week was a big negotiation, there was no substance. In Game of Thrones there wasn’t a lot of action in every episode, but the characters were evolving and things were going on behind. I…

That was the greatest 70min trailer 🤷🏾♂️

I’m soo disappointed. It was terrible. How much time was wasted on that Lannister scene, and why? Stupid. It’s the finale and that’s what they focused on? It was a horrible episode and worse because it was the finale. Ugh!!!

they really could have wrapped the whole series up in 2 seasons.

Well that was anti climactic 😤
We literally just spent an entire season being prepped for next season which isn’t happening for years. I feel played 💯— Perry ♋️ (@PerryBadeaux) August 5, 2024
