The Boys season 4 is finally here, with the highly anticipated continuation of Amazon Prime Video’s critically acclaimed superhero series now releasing on the streaming service. The Boys season 4 picks up right where The Boys season 3 ended, with the titular team trying to stop Victoria Neuman from becoming vice president while Butcher works in the background to kill Homelander and save Ryan. The Boys season 4 has already set up an exciting future for the series, but it has also paid homage to the past in a big way.
That’s Black Noir’s Sword Among Homelander’s Keepsakes In The Boys Season 4
Why Does Homelander Have It?

The Boys season 4, episode 1 contains a short scene in which Homelander is seen getting ready in his apartment. At one point, Homelander goes to put something in a box of items that are seemingly precious to him, with only a few things being in there. However, the most noticeable item in Homelander’s box is a massive sword. Although it may not be obvious to viewers at first, it becomes clear that the sword in Homelander’s box actually belonged to Black Noir upon further investigation.
Throughout The Boys‘ first three seasons, Black Noir is seen using this sword several times during his fight scenes, with this being one of the supe’s most iconic weapons. Although Black Noir has been replaced by an imposter in The Boys season 4, the new iteration of the supe is never seen with the character’s trusty sword, creating a mystery of what happened to it. However, this reveal signals that Black Noir doesn’t have his sword due to Homelander holding onto it, leading many viewers to wonder why Homelander is doing this after Black Noir’s death.
Why Homelander Kept Black Noir’s Sword After Killing Him
It Shows That He Still Respects Noir

Homelander’s decision to keep Black Noir’s sword in The Boys season 4 is an odd one, as it seems to be some kind of keepsake. Homelander isn’t known for being a sentimental person, which is why this decision is strange. However, Homelander seemed to like Black Noir in a way that he didn’t feel about most of the other members of The Seven, with Black Noir’s quiet and stoic attitude being one of the big reasons for this. Homelander actually seemed hurt when he killed Black Noir in The Boys season 3, possibly explaining his decision to keep the weapon.
The decision to keep Noir’s sword could also have to do with the other items that are in the box. Homelander’s other items pay homage to his former friends and coworkers who have died, but only those that he seemed to once love. Homelander even has an item that represents Madelyn Stillwell, someone who Homelander killed himself. If Homelander can have a keepsake from Stillwell, then he can also have one from Black Noir, despite both of these individuals being killed by Homelander.
What Other Items Homelander Kept (& Why)
They Honor Stormfront & Stillwell

Black Noir’s sword isn’t the only item in Homelander’s box, as it also contains a few other things. The first notable thing that can be seen in the box is a framed picture of Stormfront at her first wedding. Stormfront was Homelander’s Nazi girlfriend from The Boys season 2, with Stormfront’s death in The Boys season 3 being one of the things that pushed him over the edge. The founder of Vought and the Nazi flag can be seen in the image, showing that Homeladner not only loved her, but also her ideology.
The other significant item that is in Homelander’s chest is a bottle, with this being from Madelyn Stillwell. Before the character’s death, Homelander used to drink Madelyn Stillwell’s breast milk on a regular basis, with Homelander’s weird breast milk obsession being one of the most memorable parts of early seasons of The Boys. Thus, it makes sense for him to keep this item in The Boys season 4, honoring Stillwell and his strange obsession.
