Deadpool & Wolverine is the latest MCU release and has quickly become a major success with both audiences and at the box office. The film features several Marvel legacy actors reprising their roles and introducing new additions to the cinematic universe, including Henry Cavill as a Wolverine variant.

Referred to by Levy as “Cavillerine,” this variant makes a brief appearance in the movie, yet manages to include several notable references in those few seconds of screen time.

As you may know, Henry Cavill played Superman in the troubled DCEU, with his last appearance teased in Black Adam, a film that was both critically panned and a box-office disappointment. Cavill was set to reprise his role with a new standalone movie, but the DCEU was officially dismantled shortly after his return was announced.

When Deadpool tells Cavillerine they’ll treat him better than “the guys down the street,” he’s likely referencing this debacle. Cavill notably left his role as Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher to focus on Superman, only to be dropped from the role.

Despite this, Cavill now approaches the situation with a sense of humor. He recently commented on his Deadpool & Wolverine role with a playful jab at the development of Justice League.

The reference points to Henry Cavill’s final appearance in the DCEU before his post-credits cameo in Black Adam: Snyder’s Justice League. During the filming of Mission: Impossible – Fallout (2018), Cavill couldn’t shave his mustache for his role as August Walker, which required Warner Bros. to digitally remove his facial hair during Justice League reshoots.
