Ella Purnell addressed working with co-star, Walton Goggins in Fallout series.
Amazon Prime Studios’ Fallout series is making rounds on the Internet, not only because of its content but spectacular performances by the lead stars. In particular, Ella Purnell who plays Lucy MacLean, and Walton Goggins’ character Ghoul have left audiences in awe, bringing the game’s authentic essence on-screen.
The post-apocalyptic drama series has featured numerous adventures for viewers to enjoy, but it also follows the same genre as its original source, meaning brutality is one of the core elements viewers see in the show. Purnell had some of the torturous scenes with her co-star, but she handled them quite professionally.
Ella Purnell Talks About Working With Fallout Co-star, Walton Goggins
In a Zoom interview via Forbes, the 27-year-old actress reflected on working with Walton Goggins, who plays The Ghoul in the Fallout series. Given that Ghoul shows no mercy on Purnell’s Lucy MacLean, leading her to get involved in brutal scenes, the actress feels unconcerned as she understands that her co-star meant no harm.

Ella Purnell revealed that the American actor was genuinely nice in reality, which made her comfortable with filming physically torturous scenes with him.
“We’d done some rehearsals together and I had met him a few times, so I did know he wasn’t The Ghoul. I did know he was a nice person and he wasn’t really that mean. But it works so well. Lucy and The Ghoul could not be more different.”
In the third episode of the show, Purnell’s Lucy meets Goggins’ Ghoul but the latter’s treatment towards the optimistic Vault Dweller gets brutal as the show moves forward, especially in Episode 4. Given the circumstances, she would have felt scared had her co-star been any different from what she revealed about him.
As per what Goggins told the outlet, his character has gotten “devoid of emotion” after surviving in the wasteland for over two centuries now. Before the nuclear apocalypse of 2077, the Ghoul was Cooper Howard, a 1950s Hollywood star, who was recognized for playing cowboy roles.

Lucy embarks on an adventure, leaving the safety of a luxurious Vault-Tec underground fallout shelter 219 years after nuclear war ruined the planet. She met several characters along the journey including The Ghoul, who is not nice to her in any way.
However, the actress, who brought Lucy’s character to life, shares in the same interview that their meeting was a driving force to push the narrative forward.
She shared,
“What I’m interested to see — because I have only seen the first four episodes — is how they influence each other and rub off on each other as the season progresses.”
She continued,
“Lucy, obviously, has to adapt to survive and The Ghoul is the symbol of adapting to survive. He’s really done some things and seen some things that are horrifying to Lucy. So that first scene where they meet is like a springboard.”
While the video game franchise has a solid fan following on its own, its popularity resurged thanks to the new series, with their performances contributing to its success. While a second season has not been announced, it could be possible for the streaming platform to renew the show given the positive response for the first one.
Fallout is available on Prime Video.
