It’s been over a month since Prime Video launched the first season of the Fallout series, but the streaming giant is now looking to expand into the realm of gaming even further. Not only has Amazon given the go-ahead for Season 2 of the hit TV show, but it has also announced that another franchise will be getting its own adaptation.
Sure, Tomb Raider has had a few live-action adaptations in the past in the world of cinema, but with a talented name like Phoebe Waller-Bridge attached to the upcoming series, it could prove to be another successful attempt by the streaming service.
Fallout’s Triumph Paves the Way for Another Iconic Gaming Franchise
The Fallout television series showcased just how much potential game-to-TV adaptations truly possess. It made sense for Prime Video to have some patience after releasing the first season of its latest game-to-TV adaptation, especially because one never knows how the audience is going to react to a different take on beloved source material.
But after witnessing how well the television series managed to perform with both the fans of the original games and newcomers to the franchise, the streaming giant now has enough faith in trying its luck with yet another classic gaming IP.

Tomb Raider is making its way to Amazon’s streaming service in the near future, and hopefully, it can bring the legendary protagonist Lara Croft back to the forefront of multiple industries if the television series proves to be successful.
Croft has always been an iconic character, and although the previous live-action portrayals by Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander have been serviceable in the film medium, the protagonist has not really been properly fleshed out. It remains to be seen who the creators are eyeing to play the gaming icon, but at least the fans will get much more character development for her through the course of an entire season.
Waller-Bridge Continues Her Archeology Journey From Indiana Jones to the Upcoming Adaptation
The Dial of Destiny star is trying her luck with yet another story about an archeologist.
After starring in a high-profile sequel revolving around an archeologist just last year with the Dial of Destiny, Phoebe Waller-Bridge is returning for a similar premise. However, this time, she will be the writer and executive producer for the upcoming adaptation, and it might very well be a fresh story that has not been covered in the games before.
Amazon MGM Studios is looking to develop “additional Tomb Raider stories in streaming and film,” so it could take a similar approach to what it did with the Bethesda adaptation.
“If I could tell my teenage self that this was happening, I think she’d explode,” stated Waller-Bridge about how much the gaming IP and the iconic protagonist have meant to her throughout her life. It is also interesting to note that the Alicia Vikander film’s screenplay was written by Geneva Robertson-Dworet, who was one of the showrunners for the Fallout series.
Considering how the upcoming adaptation is also a Prime Video production, it would not be too surprising if Robertson-Dworet is involved in some capacity with the upcoming project as well.
