Until now, very little was known about Skeleton Crew‘s story or cast, aside from the fact that it would be one of several upcoming Star Wars shows. It was confirmed that Skeleton Crew would take place at about the same point in the Star Wars timeline as The Mandalorian and Ahsoka. Those details were rather general, though, but a new interview has given insights into Jude Law’s Jedi character and the rest of Skeleton Crew.

A first-look shared with People included interviews with several key figures on Skeleton Crew, including Jude Law and series creators Jon Watts and Christopher Ford. They revealed several glimpses into the new Star Wars show, most notably the names of its main characters and the fact that it will be a “joyful” adventure.

Law had quite a bit of praise for his child co-stars, and he said about the show, “[the] first word that comes to my mind is ‘joyful.'”

“I had a wonderful time making this with everyone involved. Those four [children] in particular who worked with me very closely were just great fun and incredibly professional, and I’m immensely proud to be a part of their crew.”

Based on his comments, Law seems to be very confident in Skeleton Crew, and so do the show’s creators. Later in the interview, Watts and Ford went on to comment on how fun the show felt to them, how much they enjoyed working with their cast and crew, and they emphasized that Skeleton Crew is a show about a group of people working together. They also went on to detail some of the Star Wars Easter eggs they incorporated into the show, and some of the other ways they made sure their series would fit into the galaxy far, far away.

Skeleton Crew Will Be Different From Anything Else In Star Wars

With this new information available, it seems abundantly clear that Skeleton Crew is going to be a truly unique Star Wars story. As its title implies, Star Wars has always been focused on conflict. There’s always an underlying theme of hope and more than a few moments of lightness and levity, but the franchise does often deal with very dark and mature topics. Skeleton Crew, however, has already promised to be significantly lighter and more joyful, and it seems the ideas of hope and cooperation will be a central part of the show’s plot instead of an underlying message.

Skeleton Crew , however, has already established that its child actors are just as important as its seasoned Jedi.

In addition to its lighter tone, Skeleton Crew seems unique based on its main cast. Four of the six named characters so far revealed in Skeleton Crew are children, and another is a droid. Star Wars has always been made so that anyone of any age can enjoy it, but Skeleton Crew seems to not only be catering to children, but actually representing them as the main heroes. Often in Star Wars, and especially in live-action, children take a back seat to adult characters who live in the spotlight. Skeleton Crew, however, has already established that its child actors are just as important as its seasoned Jedi.

Skeleton Crew‘s uniqueness also seems to be a strength. The show is set to begin releasing in early December 2024, and that joyful tone and focus on children could be a major boost for the holiday season. Skeleton Crew already seems like a show that is tailor-made for the entire family to enjoy, and a December release date will make it the perfect show to watch during winter vacation. Even though there have only been a few glimpses into what Skeleton Crew has to offer, it already looks very promising.
