Starlight’s fall from grace has become more noticeable in The Boys Season 4

The film industry experienced a period of superhero fatigue when movies and TV shows of major franchises were failing to hit the mark. One of the very few shows to have successfully ridden out that wave of disappointment was Amazon Prime’s The Boys.

However, despite its achievements, the superhero parody isn’t without its flaws. One of the major criticisms that has come out more recently is the treatment of Starlight, aka Annie January.

Starlight is losing her shine over the seasons of The Boys

Surely, the show is titled The Boys, but the girls of the show are not a slouch. In fact, they are the major powerhouses of Billy Butcher’s team. And Starlight is definitely counted among the muscle of the ragtag group of misfits.

However, over the years and seasons of the show, we have seen other characters shine over the electrifying superheroine, losing her effectiveness in the face of threats. Her arc is now focused on the more political side of the story, where she is more involved in talks than fights.

The show has also seen an increase in the number of characters who can physically intimidate Annie, and Annie has to stay down, either to protect herself or her friends. There have been instances where Starlight took center stage, but those are far and few.

Fans think Starlight deserves more limelight

The Boys Season 4 has seen Starlight taking the L more often. This does not sit well with fans who expected Annie to grow stronger with time. Some of them took to X and wrote:

The “she only uses the glowy eyes” joke got old back in season 2. It’s a shame they decided to commit to that instead of good writing.

In Season 4, we have also seen that Starlight is not as strong as she used to be. In fact, we see her powers slowly fading away. Her sudden outbursts don’t help either, making her lose her cool multiple times.

Hopefully, we will see Starlight rise back to grace and show her true power at a defining moment.
