House Dragon Laenor died theory

I can’t believe they would do this?!

House of the Dragon is no stranger to killing main characters off, but there’s one shocking fan theory that hints Laenor actually died off screen?! Whilst it’s not been explicitly stated this key character has died we’ve been given a lot of hints that it is true, and honestly, I think I’m convinced.

If you cast your mind back to before all the hectic chaos of this season you might remember Laenor, who was Rhaenyra’s first husband with the duo having three sons together. When Rhaenyra realised her claim to the Iron Throne would be more stable if she married Daemon instead, the two plotted to have Laenor killed. In House of the Dragon, his death is completely faked and he runs away with his lover, Ser Qarl Correy, but this theory suggests Laenor has secretly died off screen.

During the most recent House of the Dragon episode, Rhaenyra and Mysaria discuss how Laenor’s dragon Seasmoke is behaving very differently from usual and acting a lot more vertically and frantic. Mysaria asks why the dragon might be behaving oddly, with Rhaenyra replying: “Seasmoke – my late Lord husband’s dragon. He’s grown restless of late. We can’t know why.” Mysaria replies: “Maybe he’s lonely.”

Dragons have strong bonds with their riders and a lot of fans think that because Seamoke is suddenly behaving so erratically it means he can sense Laenor is dead and he is in mourning. Laenor has been away for some time so it doesn’t make sense for his dragon to only start acting strangely now unless something ominous had happened. It looks like we’ll have to wait and see whether we’ll ever get confirmation of whether Laenor is still alive.
