Robert Downey Jr.‘s Iron Man may not have any real superpowers but his intelligence alone proved he could singlehandedly defeat the greatest of adversaries. Since the very start, the superhero has showcased how he needs neither superpowers nor great equipment to achieve greatness. His wit, intellect, and determination have thus made Iron Man a standout character in the MCU.
And one deleted scene from Iron Man 2 provides a deeper understanding of Stark’s relentless pursuit of innovation and preparedness. In the said scene, Stark is seen working on a new element for his Arc Reactor, and in the same sequence, we can even catch a glimpse of a prototype of the nanotech technology that would potentially become his Mark L Armor seen in Infinity War.
This subtle scene showcases Tony Stark’s preparedness and consistent pursuit of revolutionary tech to protect the universe from threats and adversaries like Thanos. Even though he might have not anticipated how vital this concept would one day prove to be in saving the universe, the scene proves that Tony Stark is not called the smartest Avenger for nothing.

Fans have often wondered how Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man armor in Infinity War came about. Although unconfirmed, the above-mentioned deleted scene from Iron Man 2 seems to prove that Stark has always been interested in nanotech, perfecting it just in time in Infinity War. However, there is more than what meets the eye for Marvel’s The Wakanda Files reveals that it was the Wakandans who helped Tony Stark perfect his nano suit.
As per the book, there was a significant exchange of information between Pepper Potts, Stark Industries’ Asset Management department, Tony Stark and JARVIS, and the African nation. This eventually helped Stark acquire the information he needed to perfect his nanoparticle technology and initially used it to enhance the Spider suit for Peter Parker.
This collaboration, vital and significant, is also a notable moment in the MCU highlighting Stark’s willingness to seek external assistance to perfect his invention even though he usually avoids sharing his technology and invention. A feat that signifies a deep trust between Stark and Wakanda, this chain of events and the deleted Iron Man 2 scene also showcases both parties’ shared vision for technological advancement.
