Daniel Radcliffe revealed that he has read the Harry and Draco fan fiction.
Daniel Radcliffe rose to fame taking on the lead role in the Harry Potter franchise alongside Emma Watson and Rupert Grint. The films follow the titular character’s adventures into the wizarding world alongside his friends Hermione and Ron, while also facing off against adversaries like Draco Malfoy. However, a segment of the fan base explored the alternative relationship between Harry and Draco.

Radcliffe, who immersed himself in understanding his character for the films, is also not devoid of fans fantasizing about a romantic relationship between the two characters. Radcliffe revealed that he has actually read such fan fiction during an appearance on Vanity Fair’s lie detector test.
Daniel Radcliffe Admitted to Reading Harry-Draco Fan Fictions
Having starred in one of the biggest franchises and a prosperous career in Hollywood, Daniel Radcliffe has undoubtedly encountered various segments of fandom, including being the subject of fan fiction created by fans worldwide.
And during a Vanity Fair lie detector test, the actor admitted to reading fan fiction about him. “Yes, aloud on TV,” he said, probably recalling the time when he read a gay Harry Potter fan fiction on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen.
When asked about the “weirdest” one that he came around while exploring his fan fiction, he mentioned the prevalence of stories shipping Harry and Draco as a romantic couple. “There’s a lot of like shipping of Harry and Draco as characters together,” he said.
“So, I’ve read some of that,” he further shared, asserting, “I’m obviously aware.” The actor described it as a unique experience of being part of a franchise, saying, “This is the kind of thing I know from being in a franchise film of which people are funny about.”
While some fans enjoy seeing Harry and Draco together romantically, their relationship in the movies has been far from that. Portrayed by Tom Felton in the franchise, Draco Malfoy serves as one of Harry’s nemeses in the franchise, often relying on his parents’ influence and doing things that make him an unlikable character.
What Does Tom Felton Have to Say About These Fan Fictions?
Daniel Radcliffe is surely not the only Harry Potter star who is aware of the fan fiction surrounding their character, as Tom Felton has also weighed in. During a conversation with AOL’s In The Know (via Teen Vogue), the actor reflected on the Harry and Draco fan fiction, saying, “Harry was constantly crushing on Draco. He just couldn’t hide it.”
Rupert Grint, who portrayed Harry’s best friend Ron Weasley in the franchise, also added to the discussion, saying, “I think he made quite an impression on Ron, as well,” suggesting that he has also encountered Harry and Ron fan fiction stories.
However, the Anna and the King actor later revealed in an interview with Vanity Fair that he never delved into the world of Harry Potter fan fiction, stating that he had never actually read any fan fiction centered around the film series.
The Harry Potter franchise is available to stream on Max.
