Bridgerton’s Adjoa Andoh admits she was ‘so happy’ filming new role instead of Netflix hit

Bridgerton’s Lady Danbury star has explained why she was “so happy” to take a break from shooting the Netflix drama for a creepy new crime series.

Bridgerton star Adjoa Andoh has moved onto a new project and has admitted what she loved about the change.

Season three of the iconic romantic drama is on the way with just a matter of weeks until Netflix subscribers get to see Lady Penelope Featherington’s (played by Nicola Coughlan) love story unfold.

As always, Lady Danbury (Adjoa Andoh) will be on the sidelines, commenting on the season’s events but the 61-year-old actress has also been busy working on another project away from the world of Bridgerton.

She is set to star in the upcoming crime drama The Red King which is going to be making its debut on Friday, April 26, on Alibi.

Adjoh will portray Lady Heather Nancarrow in the six-part “twisty-turny” drama which sees police officer Grace Narayan (Anjli Mohindra) transferred to St Jory, the remote island near Wales after her by-the-book policing gets two of her colleagues in trouble.

Grace begins digging into a missing person case and comes across the town’s cult history, but this doesn’t sit well with the residents, including Lady Nancarrow (Andoa Adjoh).

Her ladyship takes ownership of the island and doesn’t like newcomers trying to stick their noses into business that doesn’t concern them, including the police.

During the premiere of The Red King, Adjoh recognised how Bridgerton’s Lady Agatha Danbury is similar to Lady Heather Nancarrow but also how they differ in their approach.

The star explained that even though both characters are able to “run things”, Heather is far more likely to get involved rather than sit back and watch from the sidelines.

Adjoh commented: “If they’re doing fun things Heather will be right in there, whereas I think Agatha would be a bit more like, no, I’m not going to get on the floor. I’m staying here.”

She also noted the biggest difference when it came to filming the two shows: “No corsetry, no wig [for filming The Red King].

“So happy, I can’t tell you. Comfortable filming – I’d forgotten what that was like. That was a lovely thing.”
