Lady Whistledown seems to have got into the ear of new parents, as Bridgerton-inspired baby names are soaring in the charts. Ahead of part two of season 3, we look at the top trending regal monikers
It seems Lady Whistledown is influencing more than Ton gossip, as parents are looking the world of Bridgerton for baby-naming inspo.
Season 3 has left fans hot under the collar as Pen and Colin’s romance blooms – with more to come in part-two. And now Bridgerton-mania has reached new heights, with the show’s regal charm leaving parents inspired. In a move Queen Charlotte would be proud of, traditional, rather posh names are spiking in the charts.
The Entertainer dug into the lastest baby name data from the Office of National Statistics (ONS) and found that names such as Charlotte, Penelope, Archie and Will are all on the rise.
They found five popular girl’s names that could be inspired by characters from the show. Overall, the most popular girls’ name in the list was Charlotte, which could be inspired from Queen Charlotte, and for boys it was George. Although George Bridgerton doesn’t appear on screen, his death is the reason behind many of the dramas on the show.
Girls’ names
The official data found the most popular girls’ names that could be inspired by Bridgerton are:
Charlotte – 1654
Alice – 1359
Penelope – 1194
Violet – 1057
Rose – 607
Alice could be inspired by Penelope’s maid, with 1359 babies being given the name, and Penelope could stem from inspiration from Penelope Featherington with 1194 newborns being given that moniker.
Violet Bridgerton could be behind the reason for just over 1000 newborns having the name. Lastly was Rose, with 607 babies potentially being named after Daphne’s close friend.
Boys’ names
The official data found the most popular boys’ names that could be inspired by Bridgerton are:
George – 4141
Archie – 2928
Henry – 2912
Jack – 2847
Will – 2093
For boys, Archie came up as second most popular with 2928 babies being awarded the title, potentially inspired by Archibald Crane. Meanwhile, Henry was a popular choice with 2912 babies having the name.
Jack was given to 2847 babies and just over 2000 were named Will. These two could have been inspired by Jack Shaw and Will Mondrich who feature throughout the show.
Discussing the data, a spokesperson from The Entertainer said: “It’s interesting to uncover how much pop culture influences aspects of life such as selecting a name for your newborn child. For years we have seen parents select names based on popular singers or actors, but with Bridgerton’s popularity, it’s no surprise to see so many names potentially inspired by the show’s characters.”
