Orphan Black has become one of the most popular sci-fi series in recent years. This summer, the spinoff series Orphan Black: Echoes is set to premiere on AMC, AMC+, and BBC America. AMC recently released the first trailer for the upcoming sci-fi series, which follows Lucy, portrayed by Krysten Ritter, known as Marvel’s Jessica Jones.
The trailer starts with a sardonic voiceover by Lucy, “My name is Lucy. I like SpaghettiOs, long walks on the beach, and I have an almost pathological desire to avoid talking about the past.”
Orphan Black: Echoes jumps forward to 2052 and once again dives deep into the ethical dilemma of manipulating human existence through cloning.
However, the past always finds a way to catch up, and Lucy is quickly on the run from dangerous forces. The fast-paced trailer jumps from one scene to another, hinting at a rather thrilling journey, when Lucy encounters another woman who is strangely familiar to her. The tagline ‘How far would you go to discover who you are?’ is just enough intrigue to hook the viewers and hint at a vast conspiracy just like in the original series.
With a touch of dark humor in Lucy’s voice and subsequent actions seen in the first trailer, Orphan Black: Echoes promises to be a worthy spinoff to the original series.
Created by Anna Fishko, who is known for her work on Pieces of Her, Fear the Walking Dead, and The Society, is the creator, writer, showrunner, and executive producer of Orphan Black: Echoes. John Fawcett, the co-creator of the original series, also helmed 17 episodes across its five seasons, returns as director and executive producer. The creative team behind the upcoming sci-fi action series includes David Fortier, Ivan Schneeberg, Katie O’Connell Marsh, Kerry Appleyard, and Nick Nantell, all part of Boat Rocker, the production company that manages the Orphan Black global franchise.
The hit sci-fi series Orphan Black launched Tatiana Maslany into the spotlight with her Emmy-winning performance as Sarah Manning and its multitude of clones.
In addition to Krysten Ritter, Orphan Black: Echoes boasts a stellar ensemble cast that includes Keeley Hawes (Bodyguard), Amanda Fix (North of Normal), Avan Jogia (Now Apocalypse), Rya Kihlstedt (A Teacher), and James Hiroyuki Liao (Barry).
