Aemond and Daemon in House of the DragonHouse of the Dragon star Ewan Mitchell has offered an intriguing tease for Aemond and Daemon’s major battle, hinting at the potential fight to come. By the end of House of the Dragon season 2, both Targaryens have become important figureheads on their respective sides. While Aemond controls the throne after burning Aegon, Daemon has pledged his loyalty to Rhaenyra, raising an army thousands strong for the war ahead. Both are cunning strategists with a ruthless approach to their schemes, indicating they could clash in the future.

Speaking with Screen Rant, Mitchell, who portrays Aemond, teased how much potential there is for a fight between his character and Daemon. The actor explains how the similarities between both characters would make a conflict interesting, especially given how much the younger Targaryen mimics the rogue prince. Check out what Mitchell had to say below:

I think everybody wants to see that. There might be [a face-off], but I can’t say anything. I would just think they’re so similar. So much of Aemond’s image has been cultivated from this idea that he has of a young Daemon Targaryen. This idea that Aemond has of Daemon; from the long hair to the Targaryen blacks and his rogue-ish personality.

Very much, if those guys were ever to go head to head, it would be like the old gun going against the young buck.

Why A Battle Between Aemond & Daemon In House Of The Dragon Is Inevitable

Throughout season 2, both Daemon and Aemond were characters willing to betray the leaders on their side of the war in order to amass power for themselves. In the young Green’s case, he succeeded, burning Aegon above Rook’s Rest and claiming power during a pivotal moment in the war. As for Daemon, he initially built an army at Harrenhal to betray Rhaenyra, only for Alys to make him realize his small part in a much larger conflict. Because of their similar ideologies and different endpoints, it only makes sense for them to face off later in the war.

How they would clash is a mystery for now, though, with one ruling from King’s Landing as the other marches alongside his army. Since Rhaenyra is planning to take the throne by attacking the major city, it’s possible this is where the pair are going to clash as well. However, Helaena’s warning to Aemond about God’s Eye could hint at the battle, given the location’s importance in George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood. But, with the show also making some changes to how everything played out in the source material, anything is possible for how the duo face off.

Given the number of large-scale events in the Dance of the Dragons yet to come, it’s unclear if Aemond and Daemon will fight each other in House of the Dragon season 3. However, with season 4 confirmed as the final season of the show, it seems inevitable the duo will battle each other before the show comes to a close. With their similarities now farther apart thanks to their season 2 character arcs, it remains to be seen how their fight goes, and which – if either of them – will emerge victorious.
