Admiral Lohar House Dragon

Actress Abigail Thorn who plays Admiral Lohar and appeared in the House of the Dragon finale has asked fans to stop criticising her acting on Reddit. The actress starred in the final episode of House of the Dragon season two as the feisty Admiral Lohar, who is in charge of the Triarchy.

The actress also runs a popular YouTube channel called Philosophy Tube, which boasts a whopping 1.58 million subscribers. She has her own subreddit for the channel but recently had to introduce a new rule for the community. This is due to the amount of “backseat acting” advice she’s receiving following her performance on House of the Dragon.

In the post, she wrote: “I added new rule – ‘Please No Backseat Acting.’ This is a tough one because I don’t want people to feel they can’t express their honest opinions or that they have to be 100% positive all the time, but I think this subreddit isn’t the place for criticism of my acting.

“If I need feedback on a performance I can get it from my directors and colleagues. I think if I have to read Reddit picking apart every acting choice it’s going to be bad for me both as a professional and a person, so let’s keep that off this particular subreddit.”

Is it just me, or was the quality of Admiral Lohar’s acting WAY below anyone else’s on the show? I didn’t buy into her character for a second.

Her announcement comes after criticism from fans over her acting skills, with one writing on the House of the Dragon subreddit: “The writers wanted Lohar to be ‘levity and off-kilter-ness’, and a “welcome bit of fun”. Which Lohar apparently was for some people, but definitely not for me. It was TikTok sketch quality acting.”

Another added: “I’m not saying anything new here, but the whole plot line there felt very odd and “over acted.” It was like I was watching Pirates of the Caribbean.”

In reply to her original message, other fans commended the quality of her acting, saying: “Super fair. Loved your appearance in HOTD, it looks like there was some great opportunities for diving into the character. I literally clapped with delight when I saw you, even though I knew to expect you. I’m personally enjoying how the show has expanded a dry historical meta commentary into something narratively compelling.”

In the original House of the Dragon books, Admiral Lohar is a man, however, in the series both male and female pronouns are used interchangeably. In the book, Lohar leads the charge in the infamous Battle of Gullet, a bloody battle involving heartbreaking losses on both sides, including Jace and his dragon.

Immediately after the battle, only three of the 28 Triarchy battleships survived, with all three being from Lohar’s hometown Lyseni. As a result, the other nations feel as though Lohar sacrificed their people in order to save his own. Later, Lohar learns some of her men have captured Viserys and she decides to look after him for a time, although he is later sold to a magistrate. In the end, the admiral is murdered by one of his rivals.
