And the scene even has its own peculiar nickname.
Anya Taylor-Joy’s acting career has never flourished so much like this year — after making a surprising appearance in Denis Villeneuve’s highest-grossing blockbuster Dune: Part 2, the actress is now heading to the Cannes Film Festival for a big premiere of her brand new adventure film Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.
While Taylor-Joy yet has to prove her deserved takeover of the role that in all senses belonged to Charlize Theron, new details about the upcoming movie keep emerging — and, as it turns out, Furiosa features a vital scene that took more than two months to shoot.
Nothing has been said about specific details of the scene, but the movie’s producer Doug Mitchell has recently revealed that the 15-minute-long sequence required 78 days of shooting and “close to 200 stunt people working on it daily.”
Apparently, the crew had to work on the scene so much that the latter, for everyone’s convenience, eventually received its own name, “Stairway to Nowhere”.
Later on Anya Taylor-Joy, who has the leading role in the film, was also asked about the mysterious scene and the actress shared that the painstaking sequence was in fact crucial for her character.
According to the actress, she would be discussing this part of the movie with director George Miller for long hours before they got to make it so long — and they presumably didn’t even have much choice given that the scene demonstrates “accumulation of skills over the course of a battle” and it gives a clear understanding of how strong Furiosa actually is, both physically and mentally.
Despite all the hardships of filming just one sequence for such a long time, everything turned out to end well — and Taylor-Joy even revealed that the crew had later celebrated with “’Stairway To Nowhere’ wine”.
