Prime Video won’t back down, for sure.
Being the most expensive TV show ever made comes with obvious perks, but it also comes with a lot of expectations. Unfortunately, in the case of Prime Video ‘s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, which was released in 2022, those expectations ended up being completely dashed.
While some fans are still hoping and praying that the show will make some changes for its second season and fix all the problems with its character arcs and storytelling, others aren’t so positive. Some of the Lord of the Rings fandom is even afraid that the show will be canceled after all the backlash it has received.
But don’t let the panic set in just yet. While the reviews of the show speak for themselves, there are plenty of reasons for Prime Video to continue production.
Ring of Power’s Humongous Budget
It’s no secret that the show’s budget remains one of its most discussed aspects. While not all of it was spent wisely, and there are reports that it was artificially inflated by production mistakes, it’s still a huge commitment that Amazon has made. So expect the studio to fight for its money until the very end.
Critics’ Response
While the show was destroyed by fans when season 1 was first released, critics were much more receptive and positive. Season 1 of the show stands with a solid 83% of critics on Rotten Tomatoes, with everyone praising the amazing graphics and brilliant acting performances.
With a better script, Rings of Power still has a chance to elicit the same reactions from franchise fans.
The Tolkien Estate Deal
Similar to the budget reason, the deal with the Tolkien Estate is not something you want to walk away from. Although the first season wasn’t the most exciting for the fans, it opened up a number of opportunities to develop the world further. To stop production would be to admit defeat not only to the viewers, but to the Tolkien legacy itself.
It’s a 5-Season Package
While some people may compare Rings of Power to Netflix ‘s The Witcher, which was planned as a 7-season story but ended up being canceled after 5 seasons, it’s not the same. The Witcher had its fair share of problems during its first three seasons and ended with Henry Cavill, the series’ star, quitting.
Rings of Power still has time to prove itself to fans, and because of the commitment to the longer story, the creators will be generous with second chances.
Rings of Powers Is Still Fixable
Though the show’s reviews have been flooded with criticism from Tolkien fans with deep knowledge of the lore and understanding of the story’s characters, there are no mistakes that the show cannot correct. If the writers take the valid points into consideration, Rings of Power season 2 could be a much-needed upgrade for the series.
