The Walking Dead: Dead City began filming for its second season in April 2024. Filming for the season that is expected to premiere in 2025 has been relocated from New Jersey to Massachusetts. Actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who has portrayed Negan Smith since season 6 of the flagship series, has been quite active on social media recently. One exciting tidbit he recently shared is that his co-star Lauren Cohan, who plays Maggie Rhee, will direct an episode in the second season of Dead City.

Morgan and Cohan served as executive producers for the first season of Dead City. They were joined by TWD Chief Content Officer Scott M. Gimple, comic story creator Robert Kirkman, and TWD veterans David Alpert, Gale Anne Hurd, Brian Bockrath, and showrunner Eli Jorné. This marked the first time Morgan and Cohan served in this capacity within The Walking Dead universe.

Below is a recent Tweet (or whatever we call them now that the platform is called X) from JDM who is all smiles as he embraces Cohan. The caption confirms that Cohan will direct during Dead City’s upcoming season. He later replied to a fan, who incorrectly stated she would be directing episode 4, that she would be directing the sixth episode.

The first season of the fourth spinoff of the main series, Dead City, neatly tied up events in the season finale. This episode also set up several new stories that will be explored in season 2.

By the close of the season, The Dama (Lisa Emery) had Negan as a captive and wanted him to join her in taking over the city of Manhattan. Adding intrigue to the criminal elements in Manhattan is the addition of Sons of Anarchy actor Kim Coates as a new villain. He will portray the intelligent and manipulative Bruegel, who leads another gang in New York who are described as fierce.

Marshal Perlie Armstrong (Gaius Charles) finds himself in quite a situation by allowing Negan to go free. The Prefect (Jasmin Walker), leader of New Babylon, threatens his family if he doesn’t help her find out more about the Croats’ (Željko Ivanek) ethanol production in Manhattan, which means she could discover Armstrong’s lie about killing Negan.

Ginny (Mahina Napoleon) was taken back to The Bricks, Maggie’s home, after learning that Negan killed her father. It will be interesting to see where her story goes after learning that the man she was being cared for is responsible for her father’s death.

The Walking Dead: Dead City will return to AMC and AMC+ with its eight-episode second season in 2025.
