‘I don’t want to be part of a cog that tends not to consider the intelligence of the audience.’
The fourth season of Emily In Paris has seen Emily’s love life in turbulence once again: from her continued arguments with Gabriel to her indecisiveness about Alfie, and finally ending up with a new boyfriend in Rome, this season was full of twists and turns for the Chicago-born Francophile.
Her ‘will they, won’t they’ relationship with Gabriel has been a main plot line for viewers since season one of the show, and while it finally seemed it be coming to an end in season four, it seemed the embers of their relationship were still burning when Alfie talked Gabriel into going after Emily and head to Rome in the final episode.
While many of us have loved this Romeo and Juliet-esque relationship dynamic, we must admit we are left wondering if the pair will ever end up together or decide to call it a day. Unsurprisingly, we’re not the only ones thinking this.
During a recent interview with The Independent, Lucas Bravo, who portrays the Parisian chef Gabriel, opened up about his frustrations regarding his character and Emily’s relationship and miscommunication.
‘Everything is based on a lack of communication. It’s a bit archaic. These days, the new generation verbalises, they confront, and that no longer works in this case, we do not understand each other,’ he said.
Considering that Emily and Gabrel have had an on-and-off romance since season one, it’s understandable why the actor feels the way that he does.
He also stated his concerns of viewers tiring over the pair’s undecided relationship status, and even declared that he did not want to be involved in portraying that kind of love story.
‘People see this mechanism coming from miles away, and I don’t want to be part of a cog that tends not to consider the intelligence of the audience,’ he added.
The 36-year-old actor continued and seemingly alluded to the possibility of leaving Emily In Paris if things for the potential couple don’t change. ‘I don’t really have any freedom [in Emily In Paris] and as people are starting to give it to me elsewhere, I am getting a taste for it,’ he noted.
‘As for playing Gabriel, I don’t understand him anymore. But we’ll see… Darren [Star] has plans. I’m just following it.’
