Master Sol’s standing as a trusted Jedi Master raises questions about why Vernestra’s assistant was so eager to accuse him of the massacre.
In Star Wars: The Acolyte episode 6 “Teach/Corrupt,” Padawan Mog Adana, Vernestra Rwoh’s assistant accuses Master Sol of being behind the Jedi massacre on Khofar.
After all, according to Mog, no one else possesses Sol’s advanced abilities, so he has to be the one who wiped out the group of Jedi accompanying him on a mission to find the Wookiee Jedi Master Kelnacca. Vernestra is rightfully dismissive of such a wild accusation, as the series established early on that Sol is someone Vernestra deeply respects.
But I wonder if there’s more to why Mog dared to accuse someone like Master Sol of committing such atrocities. If we fast-forward to the prequels, it’s impossible to imagine a Padawan getting away with blaming someone like Obi-Wan Kenobi or Qui-Gon Jinn for the massacre of a large group of Jedi. It would be out of the question to accuse someone as respected and revered as Sol unless Sol isn’t respected.
We don’t know much about what other Jedi think of Master Sol. Perhaps the events on Brendok gave him a reputation that he’s never been able to overcome, which makes him an easy target. Either that, or the Jedi are so unwilling to entertain the idea that a more sinister power can be behind this or any other massacre that it’s easier for them to blame Sol. The Sith are believed to be extinct, and the Jedi would rather accuse one of their own than revise their views on the dark side’s return to power.
Either way, Sol being accused of such a crime is shocking, and you have to wonder how he would’ve reacted to such an accusation had he been there. Master Sol continues to be heavily guilt-ridden over the loss of so many lives on Khofar, and this, as well as whatever he’s hiding about Brendok, will likely make for a tragic finish to Sol’s story in Star Wars: The Acolyte. It would be a shame to lose a character like him, but the Jedi have shown themselves to be easily led and misguided when judging one of their own. We’ve seen this happen to Ahsoka Tano in The Clone Wars, but if Master Sol falls victim to their bad judgment, it might be worse considering his rank, age, and that he’s so loved and respected by his Padawans.
Star Wars: The Acolyte is streaming on Disney+.
