Uncle Luke is demanding compensation from Ice Spice and Megan Thee Stallion for what he sees as profiting from a lane he created.
In a video posted online over the weekend, the 2 Live Crew legend claimed that the current generation of provocative female rappers need to give him his dues for fighting for freedom of expression in Hip Hop.
“Male rap is on some bullshit right now, I’m sorry. The females are winning. They’re doing everything that I did. I’m still waiting for these girls to send me a fucking check,” he said.
“I need a check from Ice Spice who turns her ass around, dropping it like it’s hot and doo-doo browning. I need a check from Sexyy Red — nah, Red’s my friend. My man Stan. Shouts out to Stan, Stan the man. I don’t need a check from him. That’s my dog, that’s his record company.”
Luke added: “All the fucking girls, Megan Thee Stallion. Anybody that’s running around shaking their asses, talking about pussy and dick on the record — y’all need to send me a check.
“Just stop by with the check and say, ‘Thank you, Uncle Luke, for fighting, going to the Supreme Court, allowing us to be able to say what we saying on the records, and we’re whooping these men’s asses right now ’cause we doing our thing.’ That’s going to go viral.”
2 Live Crew experienced widespread controversy following the release of their 1989 album As Nasty as They Wanna Be, which was classified as legally obscene by a Florida judge, banning its sale.
The group were later put on trial for their explicit lyrics and were acquitted.
“Oh, we knew we were going to get arrested,” Uncle Luke told ABC News last year while reflecting on the fateful legal battle. “It was so important for me because I knew that we were one. We were under attack. We were under attack because it was Hip Hop.”
He added: “I knew that if we don’t take on this fight of Hip Hop, that people of today wouldn’t be able to do it.”
Following the death of Sinead O’Connor last July, Luke revealed the kind words he received from the Irish singer and activist during 2 Live Crew’s fight for free speech.
“When I got backstage [at the 1990 MTV VMAs], the first person to greet me was her, knowing the weight of the world was on me, fighting this fight for free speech and hip-hop. She [hugged] me and we talked,” he wrote on X.
“She told me I was fighting a good fight. She knew the industry was not supporting me, she wanted me to know she was. I always love that woman for that. May God bless her soul my condolences go out to her family.”
