Tom Holland's Spider-Man with Knull from Venom: The Last Dance

WARNING: This article includes SPOILERS from Venom: The Last Dance.

Following the ending of Venom: The Last Dance, Knull battles Tom Holland’s web-slinger in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a Spider-Man 4 concept trailer. The MCU timeline will soon see the return of Peter Parker, following the massive conclusion to Spider-Man: No Way Home in 2021. As Spider-Man 4 is in development, the audience is actively waiting for any new story details and what is next for the Marvel hero.

With Spider-Man 4 eying a production start in the summer of 2025, more clues about the overall story are bound to emerge over the next few months. But in the meantime, Screen Culture shared a new proof-of-concept Spider-Man 4 trailer, pitching a different multiverse arc for Holland’s MCU hero. Check it out below.

Titled Spider-Man 4: King In Blackthe concept trailer sees Andy Serkis’ Knull from Venom: The Last Dance serve as the big bad of the Phase 6 installment, following the conclusion to Tom Hardy’s latest Marvel film. Spider-Man 4: King In Black also brings another highly-demanded wish to life as Holland’s Spider-Man gets depicted donning the symbiote suit at last.

What The Spider-Man 4: King In Black Concept Trailer Means For Tom Holland’s Sequel

Even though Venom: The Last Dance only gave a taste of Knull, the Marvel foe is definitely someone that can be utilized more after the latest film in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe. If the Spider-Man 4 story does end up somehow tackling the symbiote concept in one way or another, Knull would have a very organic reason to be included in the overall arc. It would also give Spider-Man another threat of his own that would naturally exclude the need for the Avengers and other MCU heroes.

With rumors having emerged that one of the reasons why it has taken as long as it has for new Spider-Man 4 details to emerge until very recently was, supposedly, because Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures were not united on whether or not to do a street-level story or revisit the multiverse concept, the Spider-Man 4: King In Black concept trailer makes a good case for how another multiverse plot could work if Knull is part of the equation. However, with many other MCU plot threads tied to Holland’s Spider-Man, it’s also possible Spider-Man 4 will remain separate.

While time will tell what happens to Knull after his debut in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, if Spider-Man 4 is truly going for another multiverse arc again, then it would make sense to have him as a big bad for Holland’s Phase 6 film. Not only would it give Sony’s Spider-Man Universe a more active role within the MCU multiverse, but it could finally give that franchise an actual Spider-Man to deal with after all these years. But for now, time will tell what kind of story is being set up for Holland’s Spider-Man 4.
