“Girl, you gone have two fan bases — one dragging me and one punching me.”
Saweetie doesn’t want any smoke with Nicki Minaj‘s “Barbz” or Ice Spice’s “Munchkins.”
During a recent interview with Cosmopolitan, the “Nani” rapper was asked about Minaj and Ice’s cinematic collab “Barbie World” made for the film Barbie. As it was once rumored that it was Saweetie’s idea to sample Aqua’s “Barbie Girl” before the New York collaborators, the Bay area star avoided the question.
“Girl, why do you want to have all the fan bases fight me,” she brushed off the interviewer. “For political reasons. Girl, you gone have two fan bases — one dragging me and one punching me.”
Last year, Jason Martin (formerly known as Problem), claimed the Pink Friday 2 star ran off with Saweetie’s idea to sample the 1997 classic song for the 2023 Mattel movie.
He also claimed that the song idea was proposed to Minaj as a collaboration with Saweetie, instead of Ice.
“As a writer on this, I can confirm this song and idea was sent to [Nicki Minaj] last year to submit for the Barbie movie,” he revealed at the time. “It’s sad to see that the original artist has been pushed off a song that was her idea and was meant for both of them. I have no side in this, but I will be compensated.”
Contradictory to Martin’s spill, it was revealed in text messages between Ice Spice and her former friend, that the song was actually presented to her first.
“Hopefully but we’re about to put out another record in June for the Barbie soundtrack,” she explained to her ex-BFF. “Which is an opportunity I brought her bc Barbie asked me to it alone but since thats her brand I invited her on & she doesn’t even see that as me bringing her something.”
Ice also called her idol, “ungrateful and delusional.”
As it isn’t clear who had the “Barbie Girl” sample idea first, Saweetie has made her own waves with one of her latest singles “Nani.”
