Plies Sues Megan Thee Stallion, Cardi B, GloRilla For Alleged Jacking Of His Song For “Wanna Be”

Plies has filed a lawsuit alleging that Megan Thee Stallion and GloRilla jacked one of his songs for their hit collaboration, “Wanna Be,” and is seeking compensation for damages incurred.

According to AllHipHop, the Florida native’s suit accuses Glo and Meg of committing copyright infringement by using elements of his 2008 track, “Me & My Goons,” to create “Wanna Be,” which has emerged as one of the more popular songs of the latter half of 2024.

In addition to GloRilla and Thee Stallion, Cardi B, who appears alongside the pair on the song’s remix, is also named as a defendant in the lawsuit. Other defendants include Megan’s Hot Girl Productions, Universal Music Group, Collective Music Group and Interscope, as well as Soulja Boy’s former label, Collipark Productions.

According to Plies, Soulja committed copyright infringement when he used elements of “Me & My Goons” for his 2010 single, “Pretty Boy Swag,” one of Soulja’s signature tracks.

Ironically, LilJuMadeDaBeat, the producer responsible for creating the instrumental for “Wanna Be,” says that the song actually features a credited sample of an older Soulja Boy track, thus nullifying Plies’ claim.

According to LilJuMadeDaBeat, “Wanna Be” contains elements lifted from Soulja Boy’s song, “My Dougie,” which was released in 2006, two years prior to Plies’ “Me & My Goons.”

“My Dougie came it in 2006, Me & My Goons came it in 2008. Big E the producer of “My Dougie” is credited on Wanna Be,” the boardsman wrote on X in response to a report regarding Plies’ filing

“For the Record Pretty Boy Swag is a remake of My Dougie as well,” he added. Soulja Boy is on the My Dougie Remix. Me & My Goons literally not even the single for that Plies album.

When a social media user questioned LilJuMadeDaBeat’s account, he countered by claiming that he was present during the song’s creation.

“Wanna Be” was released in April as the second single from GloRilla’s Ehhthang Ehhthang mixtape and debuted at No. 11 on the Billboard Hot 100. In addition to “Pretty Boy Swag,” “Wanna Be” also includes a sample of Project Pat’s 2001 track, “Don’t Save Her.”
