“Nobody Wants This” has been renewed for Season 2 at Netflix.
The news comes around two weeks after the show’s premiere at the streamer, with the first season dropping on Sept. 26. Season 2 will see new showrunners at the helm of the comedy series. “Girls” alums Jenni Konner and Bruce Eric Kaplan are joining the series as showrunners and executive producers. They have been working at the head of a writers room for Season 2 for the past few weeks.
The renewal news was announced by Netflix chief content officer Bela Bajaria at the Bloomberg Screentime conference in Los Angeles.
Erin Foster, who created the series, remains onboard as an executive producer. Along with Konner and Kaplan, Steven Levitan and Oly Obst are also executive producers on the series, with Bell executive producing in addition to starring. Sara Foster, Danielle Stokdyk, and Jeff Morton executive produce as well, with Nora Silver of Jenni Konner productions joining as an executive producer for Season 2. 20th Television produces in association with Steven Levitan Productions.
The series stars Kristen Bell, Adam Brody, Stephanie Faracy, Michael Hitcock, Tovah Feldshuh, Paul Ben-Victor, Emily Arlook, Jackie Tohn, Sherry Cola, and Shiloh Berman. The official series description states:
“An agnostic podcast host and an unconventional rabbi on the rebound walk into a party. When they walk out — together — the unlikely pair, Joanne (Bell) and Noah (Brody), can tell there is something between them. But also potentially between them, with their differing outlooks on life, all of the modern obstacles to love, and their sometimes well-meaning, sometimes sabotaging families — including her sister Morgan (Lupe) and his brother Sasha (Simons).”
“It’s a dream to be working on ‘Nobody Wants This,’” Konner said. “Erin is the rare creator with a crystal clear voice and a genuinely collaborative spirit. I am a true fan of Erin’s show and also feel so lucky to be back in a room with two of my favorites, Bruce Kaplan and Sarah Heyward from ‘Girls.’”
“Nobody Wants This” has been at the top of the Netflix Top 10 English language TV chart since it launched. It opened in the number two spot in its first few days of availability, nabbing 10.3 million views. Netflix defines a view as total hours viewed divided by total runtime. The show rose to number one in its first full week of availability with 15.9 million views, knocking “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story” out of the top spot.
“I am excited beyond belief to be a part of Season 2 of ‘Nobody Wants This,’ created by the hilarious Erin Foster,” Kaplan said. “It is such a unique and beautiful show and I am already having the best time working on it.”
