Meghan Markle was interviewed by Vanity Fair in 2017, just two months before her engagement to Prince Harry was announced, and reportedly ‘defied’ his orders.
An author has alleged that Meghan Markle was reportedly “hysterical” following an interview, having been given strict guidelines by Prince Harry. In 2017, just two months prior to their engagement announcement, the now-Duchess of Sussex was interviewed by Vanity Fair and journalist Sam Kashner.
Royal author Tom Bower claims in his book Revenge: Meghan, Harry and the War between the Windsors, that Harry had instructed his future wife to avoid discussing three sensitive topics during the interview: Donald Trump, race, and their relationship. Mr Bower wrote: “Kashner arrived at Meghan’s home and was told that his interviewee had been given strict instructions by both Harry and Keleigh Thomas Morgan [a publicist at PR firm Sunshine Sachs].
“Knowing that Diana and Sarah Ferguson had ruined their reputations in interviews, Harry had asked Meghan to keep quiet about sensitive subjects – Donald Trump, race, their relationship and especially himself. He was not to be mentioned.”
Despite Meghan being featured on the cover of the esteemed magazine, the headline “She’s Just Wild About Harry,” contradicted the Duke of Sussex’s wishes for their relationship to remain private, according to the Express.
The author further claimed: “Within hours, Meghan called Ken Sunshine [founder of Sunshine Sachs Consultants] and Keleigh Thomas Morgan. Hysterically, she described Buckingham Palace’s fury at ‘Wild About Harry,'” reports the Daily Record.
“Sunshine Sachs said Meghan should have ensured that her comments about Harry were removed. Why wasn’t the focus on her philanthropy and activism?”
“Ken Sunshine feared that Meghan would fire his agency. Puzzled why Buckingham Palace was angry, he called the magazine’s editor to deliver what he imagined to be the ultimate threat. ‘You’re going to have to deal with the Queen on this,'” he said. “The furious monarch, he imagined, like Trump, would pick up the phone and berate the editor. The editor was bemused.”
The couple tied the knot in Windsor on May 19, 2018, and welcomed their son, Prince Archie, in 2019. Princess Lilibet was born in 2021, following their relocation to the United States in 2020. Meghan and Harry currently reside in Montecito, California.
Since then, Prince Harry has made multiple trips back to the UK, while Meghan has only visited the UK twice since 2020.
