“Mamushi” has been used in over 564,000 videos on TikTok since its release on the rapper’s ‘MEGAN’ album last month.
Megan Thee Stallion and Yuki Chiba are bringing “Mamushi” to life on stage.
During the Grammy-winning rapper’s final Hot Girl Summer Tour stop at the O2 Arena in London on Wednesday, July 17, she was joined by the Japanese singer/rapper for the surprise live debut of their viral collaboration, “Mamushi.”
“We about to do something real cute for the last Hot Girl Summer arena tour show. We ain’t did this s— the whole tour. Y’all ain’t seen this yet. We got a real special treat for London tonight,” said Megan, 29, according to a video shared by NME.
Chiba, 34, then joined the “WAP” artist on stage to ravenous applause from the audience, whom she told to “make some motherf—ing noise” for the guest performer.
As the two musicians performed “Mamushi,” they both did the dance that’s helped the song go viral on TikTok, where it’s soundtracked over 564,000 videos since its Friday, June 28 release on Megan’s self-titled third album.
After the London show, the “Body” star posted to Instagram and shared two photos with Chiba alongside other images from the evening.
“Had thee O2 JUMPING last night 🇬🇧🇬🇧,” she captioned the post. “Thank you London Hotties 🥹🥹🥹 I cant believe we really completed our first tour hotties 💙💙💙”
“Mamushi” currently sits at No. 45 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. “Stream Mamushi and the whole album,” said Megan in a Friday, July 12 Instagram Live stream, before announcing: “And yes, I’m going to Japan to shoot the video, and then I’m coming home.”
Titled after a snake found in Japan, the song is one of several on Megan’s latest album to feature a snake motif, as other tracks include “Boa,” “Hiss,” “Rattle” and “Cobra.”
In a May interview with L’Officiel USA, she opened up about why the reptile influenced her latest era. “We don’t just stop at the snake. This is just what everybody sees right now. Renewal, rebirth: that is the whole concept of this [album],” she told the outlet.
“We started with the snake because, first of all, I love snakes, but I feel like snakes are so misunderstood, especially in western culture,” added Megan. “Snakes represent rebirth, spirituality.”
She continued, “I’m not really a person that’s like, Oh my God, sunshine and just super bubbly, happy. I like darker things. I like things that are a little scary. I like things that are unique. I picked the snake because… it’s kind of like an antihero.”
