From Emily in Paris’ go-to playlist to the cast group chats she can’t get enough of, Lily Collins just shared some serious behind-the-scenes secrets.

If you’re still mourning the loss of the fourth season of Emily in Paris, fear not. Lily Collins, who plays the titular Emily Cooper, has shared a slew of behind-the-scenes secrets with Buzzfeed, which has satiated our appetite for Emily in Paris content (for now).

‘At the beginning of the season, we don’t have all ten scripts to read. We have the first few,’ Collins shared, adding, ‘We shoot mostly in order based on the episodes, because sometimes they’re writing as we’re there. And then as we’re experiencing the city and we’re finding the characters that year, the writing is happening in real time.’

The rumour mill reaches the cast of Emily in Paris, too. ‘We hear rumours. Like last year, it was like, there’s a rumour that there’s gonna be a wedding and that there’s a rumour there’s a baby,’ she said. ‘And I’m like, “Well, there’s no way that there can be both of those things!” And then we literally all were at the table read, reading it for the first time. We were like, “What? Huh?” And so I think people assume that we just know, but we don’t.’

Fans of the show will also be pleased to know that Emily and Mindy (Ashley Park) are BFFs in real life, too. ‘No matter where we are in the world, we’re sending each other things,’ Collins said of Park, before admitting that the close bond they share leads to a lot of funny bloopers while filming.

‘Ashley and I, you can never shut us up when you get us together. So usually our directors are like, “Oh, oh, oh, one second”,’ Collins said. ‘But this season we also got to go skiing in the mountains – well “skiing” – it was more like falling for me. So there’s a lot of outtakes from that, which was hilarious. It didn’t hurt. It was more like, “I can’t believe I’m doing this.”’

As for Emily’s outré outfits, Collins admitted that she hasn’t been the biggest fan of all of them. ‘When I’ve thought it wasn’t something Emily would wear, I was encouraged to try it on anyway. And then I’m like, “You know what? I was wrong. This is perfect.” It’s all about the fit,’ she shared. ‘It’s all about, it’s a character. And I love when I’m proven wrong on this show when it comes to fashion, because it’s all about taking risks.’

When it comes to Emily’s go-to playlist, Collins has curated a hit-list of what she imagines would be her character’s favourites. ‘Usually when we’re filming, I play music that is popular right now in that moment, because I feel like Emily would be listening to like the top 40 or any of the kind of like pop moments,’ she said, adding that Dua Lipa, Sabrina Carpenter and Lizzo are just a few of the artists she had on repeat while filming season four.
