The 2024 Met Gala recently took place and things quickly got messy. Paparazzi were caught making offensive comments towards Stray Kids while they were posing for photos, but that isn’t the only act of racism to come out of the event this year.

When asked about the designer of her dress, Cardi B referred to them as “Asian and everything” possibly because she forgot the designer’s name.

She received criticism on social media for not only referring to the designer in a “mannerless” and potentially “racist” way, but also for failing to properly promote and credit the designer during such a big event in the fashion world.

Cardi B was wearing WINDOWSEN by @sensenlii, a Chinese designer.

Korean netizens had mixed opinions on the issue. Some believe that because Cardi B often shows her love for Asian culture, it was a mistake and she didn’t mean any harm. However, others believe that it’s a careless excuse for thoughtless behavior.

“It’s not just racism, it’s incredibly rude to the designer who made the dress to say you don’t know who made it when you’re going to a famous fashion event…”

“I think even small things like that are racism… Cardi B… I’m a bit disappointed ㅠ”

“Those who don’t know if this is racism, shut up and go away. You’re making a fool of yourself.”

“I’m not shocked because Cardi B didn’t have a good image in the first place, but I think it would be better for her to apologize because it’s a statement that could be considered racist, whether intentional or not. (. . .) I guess you can compliment while being discriminatory at the same time.”

“Asian human rights are really at rock bottom.”

“If she had said the opposite, she would have been cursed and made a fuss on Instagram. I really hate racism.”

Since then, Cardi B has posted her love for the designer on Instagram.
