Though her character is still mastering the art of life as a Parisienne, when it comes to actor Lily Collins’ personal beauty style, she is every bit the Francophile. There’s the bold red lip – a pre-requisite by the standards of French beauty – that serves as her signature statement on and off screen. And the French bangs, cut in haste in a dramatic episode of Emily In Paris, and not forgetting her natural bare-faced glow which has long epitomised that French girl je ne sais quoi.

In the midst of filming the highly anticipated return of Emily In Paris season 4, ELLE UK caught up with Collins to talk beauty muses, wellness hacks and her holy grail beauty essentials in Paris.

On her skincare non-negotiables

‘I use SPF daily – protecting yourself from the sun is so important. I’ve been using a Kiehl’s sunscreen, which is super light and fragrance-free. I also always keep my serum and foundation with me (that would be Lancome’s Advanced Génifique Serum and their Teint Idole Ultra Wear Foundation). Burt’s Bees lip balm is also an essential in my bag as it provides such great hydration and the peppermint makes my lips tingle.’

On her self-care and wellness routine

‘Self-care can come in many forms, whether it be therapy, meditation, reading a book, or having an amazing cup of coffee. I’ve been finding that joy in taking a long shower or just taking a moment for myself. One essential part of my wellness routine is journalling, so every morning and evening, I write in a gratitude journal called The Five-Minute Journal.’

On her essential beauty prep ahead of filming

‘I love getting facials at Cible Skin in Paris. They work miracles on my skin while I’m filming Emily in Paris and always leave me feeling brighter and healthier than when I started the season. Oh, and I’m never without Beekeeper’s propolis throat spray, which helps soothe my throat and keeps me from getting sick while travelling.’

On her most loved beauty look from Emily In Paris

‘My hairstylist did my hair recently for an episode in the show and I loved what he did so much that I wanted to make it last the weekend. It started as an updo, but then turned into a whole other look—a cool blow dry with my bangs looking great and very French. Using Living Proof’s Advanced Clean Dry Shampoo was the perfect way for me to extend its life.’

On her beauty mantra

‘I believe that the quirky things that make you different are what make you beautiful. To add to that, the older I’ve gotten the more I’ve realised how important taking care of my hair and skin is. So when I’m not working, less is more! I always love experimenting with glam when I’m working or going to a big event, but for my time off, I’m a make-up minimalist and really prioritise skincare and taking care of myself.’

On her holy grail haircare

‘Whether I’m shooting a movie or on a photoshoot, it can take a big toll on my hair between all that straightening, colouring and curling. So, when I’m not working, I make it my mission to reset and concentrate on damage control by using Living Proof’s Triple Bond Complex. That way I can maintain my hair’s integrity and make sure it’s the healthiest it can be.’

On her Parisienne beauty tips…

‘I believe bare skin and a red lip can make any outfit go from day to night in that true Parisian effortless way.’
