‘The idea came to us when Darren Star and I met her at the Élysée Palace in December 2022,’ Collins explained.
The Bear and Emily In Paris might be polar opposites when it comes to subject matter (the fact we don’t need to sit in a quiet room and practise deep breathing after the latter is one big difference), but it seems Lily Collins’ hit Netflix show is drumming up quite the list of famous cameos.
Similar to Jeremy Allen White’s Emmy award-winning series (which has seen everyone from Will Poulter and Sarah Paulson to Jamie Lee Curtis and Olivia Colman feature), Emily In Paris season four sees the likes of Rupert Everett make his debut as Giorgio Barbieri, the owner of an interior design company based in Rome, and the French first lady, Brigitte Macron make a cameo as herself.
Explaining how the cameo of Macron came about, Collins recently explained that Emily In Paris’ creator Darren Star met her a few years ago and the idea has been in the works ever since.
‘The idea came to us when Darren Star and I met her at the Élysée Palace in December 2022,’ Lily said. ‘She is a big fan of the show and took the mention of her in season one with great humour. This scene in season four is a wink, and shooting with her was both an honour and a real joy.’
Star previously told ELLE US that Macron had ‘great talent’.
In season four, Macron is seen eating in the same restaurant as Emily in Paris. The marketing expert is seen walking over to Macron, who follows the American on Instagram, and the pair take a selfie together. At one point, Emily tells the First Lady that she loves France, to which Macron replies: ‘And my country loves you, Emily.’
Emily later posts their selfie together on Instagram with the hashtag #FirstLadiesWhoLunch.

Macron’s Emily In Paris cameo (during which she wore her own clothes, we might add) is the second time she has played herself on television.
In 2018, she appeared in Vestiaires, a French comedy series, and earlier this year it was announced that a six-part biopic titled Brigitte, une femme libre (Brigitte, a free woman) was in production.
With an Italy-based season five of Emily In Paris now confirmed, we wonder which other celebrities will star in the forthcoming season. Place your bets.
