Emily in Paris actress Ashley Park recalled how costar Lily Collins called her out on the connection she and costar-turned-boyfriend Paul Forman had developed on the set.
For Ashley Park and Paul Forman, the sparks were flying onscreen before they became an IRL couple.
And for the Emily in Paris actors, whose characters Mindy Chen and Nicolas de Léon are love interests, that onscreen chemistry came from their immediate connection offscreen.
“We started in a really great friendship,” Park told E! News in an exclusive interview. “We just loved working together and as a collaborator, I loved working with him and as a scene partner.”
In fact, things were so friendly that before her and Paul were officially together, costar Lily Collins inquired about the romance.
But when the lead actress questioned her onscreen BFF about it, she got shut down.
She continued, “So what happened with Lily was that she called it out first to me and I said, ‘No, that’s not happening.’ And then when things did really blossom in a big way, I was like, ‘Oh my God, I have to tell her because now I lied.'” (For more from the cast of Emily in Paris, watch E! Park and Forman, who made his debut in season three of the Netflix hit, first sparked romance rumors in October 2023 when they were spotted out together at a Hollywood event.
This past January, the Joy Ride actress confirmed their relationship while sharing that she had been fighting a private health battle: She had contracted tonsilitis, which developed into an infection that sent her into critical septic shock.
“You calmed my fears and held me through ambulances, three foreign hospitals, a week in the ICU, scary ERs, countless scans and tests and injections, excruciating pain, and so much confusion all while we were alone on the other side of the world far from those we know,” she wrote on Instagram. “I love you Paul. More than I can ever say.”
Nowadays, Park is feeling grateful for making it through the ordeal. “Obviously I’m here and sitting here,” she told E! News, “and this is vastly different than anything that I thought would I be able to do at this time.”
And when it came time to film with Forman again for season four, Park had to get used to something else: Her British partner’s onscreen accent.
“I was so grateful that Paul was able to come back with me, especially like with my health and stuff,” she admitted, adding, “But I forgot that in the show he has a French accent. The accent is so a different character that I forgot that it was him.”
