Emily in Paris is another Netflix series that follows the streamer’s somewhat recent release strategy for popular shows. Like projects such as Stranger Things and You before it, Emily in Paris season 4 is divided into two parts, with the second releasing almost exactly one month after the first. The strategy mostly works, even though the series’ episodes are not that long to warrant the divide, and Emily in Paris Season 4 – Part 1 has the perfect cutting-off point to set up many debates in the month it takes for Part 2 to arrive.
Emily in Paris Season 4 – Part 1 heavily hinges on the events of season 3’s bombshell finale. At the end Emily in Paris season 3, Camille blew up her and Gabriel’s wedding by revealing — in front of all the guests — he had feelings for Emily and vice versa. Camille tells everyone about the pact she made with Emily not to date Gabriel and that she later broke it. By the end of the episode, Alfie leaves, completely distraught by the reveal, with Gabriel telling Emily that Camille is pregnant with his child.
Emily Cooper Has To Deal With The Fallout From Season 3’s Finale
Season 4 promises romance and intrigue in spades
Emily in Paris has always been about romance and how passion, timing, and circumstances all need to match for things to move along. Season 4 – Part 1 offers that in spades, with plenty of other hilarious situations and the expected dramatic reveals helping to diversify the first five episodes. The events of the season 3 finale affect every main character at the beginning of season 4, leading to heartfelt conversations and many relationships being tested.
The season 3 finale seemed to make the path clear for Gabriel and Emily to get together, but things are not so simple. Lucien Laviscount’s Alfie is still very much part of the show, and Lily Collins’ character has to figure out her heart and love for both Alfie and Lucas Bravo’s Gabriel. The latter also has to deal with Camille’s decision to completely change their plans out of the blue, his feelings for Emily, and the thought of being a father, all while he chases a Michelin star for his restaurant.
It’s been interesting to see how these characters have grown throughout the series while dealing with the most varied kinds of situations. Season 4 is not the smooth sailing Emily Cooper would have wanted, to say the least. The series’ writing remains as sharp as ever, with the actors’ incredible chemistry building up tension that permeates every single one of Part 1’s episodes.
Emily In Paris Continues To Bring Many Surprises
It’s very clear that season 4 is only just beginning. Part 1 does a lot of heavy lifting for what’s to come, serving as a bridge between the multiple shocking events of the season 3 finale and what could be an even more tense season 4 finale — if the dominoes all fall into place. Collins remains delightful as the titular character, who now feels much more at home in Paris.
Bravo’s Gabriel is under a lot of stress due to his focus on getting a Michelin star, but when he is with Emily, who is helping him achieve his goal, that all changes. The two characters have some of my favorite interactions of season 4 so far, bringing up their shared history from the first three seasons. Alfie and Emily also share some pretty heartfelt — and funny — moments, which contribute to Emily’s continuous headache on the topic of choosing between him and Gabriel.
Camille is an interesting character to watch in season 4, with some of her choices bound to make a big splash in Part 2. The Agence Grateau crew continues to provide both hilarious moments — Luc is at the top of his game — and dramatic ones, with both Sylvie and Julien having to adapt to old and new scenarios, respectively. While Part 1 does not deviate from the classic Emily in Paris formula, it is an entertaining watch that will leave you wanting more.
All 5 episodes of Emily in Paris Season 4 – Part 1 are now streaming on Netflix.
