Emily in Paris season 4’s trailer has been released, and it confirms my worst fears about one of the show’s main storylines. The love triangle that has defined the show so far seemed to have come to an end during Emily in Paris season 3’s finale. After Camille exposed Emily’s feelings for Gabriel at the wedding, whose list of guests included Alfie, I assumed that season 4 was going to be focused on Emily and Gabriel trying to make things work. However, it will be more complicated than that.

Most of the cast of Emily in Paris season 3 is returning for the fourth season, including Lucian Laviscount as Alfie. Emily in Paris season 4 is also bringing back some storylines that were not resolved in the previous season, such as Camille’s secret and what will happen between Emily and Gabriel. As shocking as the season 3 finale was, particularly the wedding, some things haven’t changed in Emily in Paris going into season 4.

Emily Is Still Uncertain About Alfie & Gabriel In Emily In Paris Season 4

Emily Needs “More Time” In Emily In Paris Season 4

Emily and Gabriel in Emily in Paris season 4

Emily in Paris season 4’s trailer makes it clear that not much has changed since the end of season 3. While Emily has made her choice regarding her professional life and will remain in Europe, the love triangle that has set the narrative for Emily in Paris for the last two seasons remains.Alfie broke up with Emily in season 3, but he returns in season 4 as they still have things to sort out. At the same time, Emily is trying to make sense of everything that happened between her and Gabriel, particularly after his failed wedding.

After two seasons of a love triangle, Emily in Paris ’ ‘Alfie or Gabriel?’ question is starting to become tiresome.

Emily says in the trailer that “they both mean a lot” for her for different reasons, which all but confirms that she is still not sure about her feelings regarding Alfie and Gabriel. Emily also says that she needs “more time,” thus indicating that Emily in Paris’ love triangle will not be solved very easily in season 4, if at all. While it makes sense for Emily to still have things to sort out with both Alfie and Gabriel after the events of season 3, I am surprised that the show seems to be recycling the love triangle storyline.

Emily In Paris Season 4’s Returning Love Triangle Risks Becoming Tiresome

“Alfie Or Gabriel?” Has Been A Thing Since Season 2

Emily’s relationships have been an important part of Emily in Paris ever since the first season of the Netflix original show. From the fallout with Doug, who refused to maintain a long-distance with Emily following the start of her new life in Paris, to the disastrous wedding from season 3, Emily in Paris has had quite a few romantic storylines. All of them reflected certain phases and challenges Emily was going through and helped define her character across three seasons. Still, after two seasons of a love triangle, Emily in Paris’ “Alfie or Gabriel?” question is starting to become tiresome.

Alfie finally learning about Emily’s feelings for Gabriel felt like a natural conclusion for their relationship. Although Emily did try to make things work, it is clear that Alfie deserves better. However, even though they seem to be close again in season 4, Emily still has feelings for Gabriel and is not sure about what to do next. Emily in Paris season 4’s trailer makes me believe that this love triangle will continue to be at the center of the show. Emily is single and will embark on new journeys, but the “Alfie or Gabriel” dilemma remains.

How Emily In Paris Season 4 Can Add A New Twist To Its Love Triangle

The Show Can Be More Than Just “Alfie Or Gabriel”

Although the term “love triangle” suits the dynamic involving Emily, Alfie, and Gabriel, it does not fully describe everything that is going on in Emily in Paris. There is also the matter of Camille, who became friends with Emily and agreed that neither of them would get with Gabriel. However, Camille broke the pact and almost got married to him. To make things more complicated, Camille called off the wedding at the altar and revealed what Emily felt for Gabriel. Another important point is that Camille is pregnant with Gabriel’s child.

Emily in Paris Season 4, Part 1 premiers on Netflix on August 15; Part 2 premiers on September 12.

The confusion does not stop there, as Mindy herself acknowledges in the trailer. Camille cheated on Gabriel shortly before their wedding and is now in a secret relationship with Sofia. With so many characters and feelings involved, Emily in Paris has the chance to go beyond the love triangle drama and do something truly interesting in season 4. Additionally, Emily mentions “the one” at the end of the trailer, which may be a red herring to hide the fact that she could have a new love interest that is neither Gabriel nor Alfie.
