Netflix dropped the second half of season four of Emily in Paris last week, as the lead character descended on Italy and viewers were introduced to some brand new characters.

As if her love life wasn’t complicated enough, the show brought in a new love interest for Emily in the form of Marcello (played by Eugenio Franceschini).

The last episode ended with Emily deciding to move to Rome after going on a scooter tour of the city with Marcello.

Despite the pair seemingly enjoying each other’s company, fans aren’t so sure and have taken to Reddit to share their concerns.

A Reddit user began a thread titled ‘Marcello is kinda toxic and no one is talking about it’, which prompted over a hundred comments.

Somebody commented: “So great that you notice it! We don’t actually know this guy, he must have his own baggages.”

Another responded: “Yes exactly. I think everyone on this subreddit just fell in love with the guy like Emily did. And rightfully so.

“He makes Emily happy and he makes her leave her phone at home for once. But everyone is ignoring his major red flag. And I predict that we will get to see more of that in an upcoming season or maybe movie.”

Somebody else quipped: “I feel like he is love bombing her. He comes on too strong. Both Alfie and Gabriel took some time getting to know her, before they developed feelings for her.

“But Marcello is over the top from the moment he met her … It’s just too much, He doesn’t even know her!”

While yet another added: “I definitely sensed red flag toxic vibes. He has been very love bomb-y, then he became hostile really suddenly and disappeared.”

The show will return for a fifth season, Netflix have confirmed

Fans will be pleased to know that they’ll definitely get to find out what happens next with Emily and Marcello as Netflix has renewed the show for a fifth season.

Creator Darren Star told Tudum: “We’re thrilled with the incredible response to this season of Emily in Paris and excited to return for a fifth to continue Emily’s adventures in Rome and Paris!”

Despite moving to Rome, Darren clarified that Emily hasn’t completely left Paris and will be going back and forth between the two cities.

He continued: “Emily’s going to have a presence in Rome. It doesn’t mean she’s not going to be in Paris, but she’s going to have a presence in Rome.”
