She said she delayed the record because she was “relaxing this year”.
A representative for Cardi B has said the rapper will drop her long-awaited second album this year, despite tweeting otherwise.
Last week in a now-deleted tweet, Cardi B said she was delaying the release of her sophomore record.
“Anyway, NO album this year,” she wrote. “I don’t care. I’m relaxing this year. [I’m] dropping these features I already committed to and travelling and enjoying my summer.”
This seems to be untrue as a representative for the rapper has since confirmed to Rolling Stone that an album was still in on the cards for this year.
The long-awaited record will serve as the follow-up to her 2018 record-breaking debut album ‘Invasion Of Privacy’. The LP won Best Rap Album at the 2019 Grammys, making her the first-ever solo female act to win the award.
It was reported that – as of March this year – the LP is partially done. However, it didn’t have a title, an intro, features, or a rollout plan, and needed at least three more songs.
“I take my music so fucking seriously that that’s why I don’t put it out,” she said about the six-year delay. “If it’s not perfect to my ear, if every fucking word doesn’t sound like it’s pronounced right, if the beat is overpowering the words or the words is overpowering the beat, I don’t want to put it out.”
The rapper added that she will go on tour after the release of the record.
Cardi B has already shared a glimpse of what’s to come on her next album. Earlier this year, she shared two pop-trap songs in the form of ‘Enough (Miami)’ and ‘Like What (Freestyle)’ – the latter sampling Missy Elliott’s 1999 hit ‘She’s A Bitch’. Both singles will appear on the ‘Bodak Yellow’ star’s upcoming LP.
Additionally, other singles such as 2022’s ‘Hot Shit’ featuring Lil Durk and Kanye West, her 2020 chart-topping controversial hit with Megan Thee Stallion ‘WAP’, and the upbeat 2021 single ‘UP’ will apparently feature on the album.

She also told Rolling Stone that she believed her success changed the way record labels looked at women who rap, leading to more female rappers being signed in hopes they can replicate her success.
“These labels [were] not believing in repping new rap artists,” she told the publication. “People from every single label have fucking told me this shit in my face. They started signing new female rappers after I got signed.”
“Whether some bitches could be the greatest rappers [or] they just make good music – at the end of the fucking day, guess what? They’re in your playlist right now,” she added.
Back in March, Cardi also featured on Shakira‘s ‘Puntería’. It served as the opening track from the Columbian pop singer’s latest album ‘Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran’.
In other news, Cardi B has faced backlash after she forgot the name of the designer behind her Met Gala look, referring to them as “Asian”. She commented on the situation, saying she “was being rushed to the front of the line”, making her “very scared” on the red carpet.
