The “Up” rapper originally filed for divorce in September 2020, but the pair later called it off
Cardi B and Offset are calling it quits — again.
On Wednesday, July 31, Cardi B filed for divorce from Offset, 32, after six years of marriage, a representative for the “Bodak Yellow” rapper confirmed to PEOPLE. “It’s not based on cheating rumors, but rather has been a long time coming,” the rep said.
The New York Post‘s Page Six was first to report the news.
The outlet reported that Cardi B, 31, is seeking primary custody of their children together, daughter Kulture Kiari, 6, and son Wave Set, 2½. The divorce filing was not publicly available at press time.
On Thursday, Aug. 1, Cardi B announced on Instagram that she is pregnant with her third child, hours after the divorce news broke.
“With every ending comes a new beginning! I am so grateful to have shared this season with you, you have brought me more love, more life and most of all renewed my power!” she wrote to her baby on the way in the caption.
The news of the divorce comes over seven months after Cardi B got candid on Instagram Live as she admitted, “I’ve been single for a minute now,” according to a recording of the livestream shared on X (formerly known as Twitter). The Grammy winner told fans she wanted to start the new year “fresh” and “open,” as she admitted, “I’m curious for a new life, for a new beginning. And yeah… I’m excited.”
Since then, she and the Migos star have spent time together on New Year’s Eve, Offset directed her March music video for “Like What (Freestyle),” they caught a Knicks game together in May, and that same month, Rolling Stone published an interview in which Cardi said the pair was “all right now.”
“Because we do love each other,” she said at the time, adding, “It’s not even about love. We’re best friends. And it’s like, ‘OK. Well, there was a time that I didn’t have a best friend, or I didn’t have a support system.’ It’s not even about ‘How do you leave a partner?’ How do you stop talking to your best friend?”
In mid-December, Cardi also went live on Instagram, sounding tearful and emotional as she addressed their relationship. “This motherf—er really likes to play games with me at my most vulnerable time. When I’m not the most confident,” Cardi said to her followers, according to a video captured by The Neighborhood Talk. “He likes to play games with me because he knows that I’m not an easy girl.”
Cardi B and Offset have had an on-and-off again relationship since tying the knot in September 2017, often the result of his alleged infidelity. They announced they were splitting in 2018 and, after reconciling, Cardi B filed for divorce in September 2020, which they later called off.
In a 2020 interview with ELLE, Cardi addressed the couple’s tumultuous romance, saying, “I do know that my relationship has a lot of drama and everything. But there’s a lot of love there’s a lot of passion, there’s a lot of trust, there’s a big friendship.”
She added, “It’s always us against the world.”
In June 2023, the couple again appeared to be struggling. Offset alleged that Cardi B cheated on him in a since-deleted Instagram Story. “My wife f—ed a N—- on me gang yall n—- know how I come,” the post read.
Cardi B replied with a Twitter Space conversation in which she sang the first verse of Keyshia Cole’s “I Should Have Cheated.” She then told listeners, “That motherf—er spiraling and thinking s—.”
“Please boy, stop acting stupid. Stop acting stupid,” she addressed Offset directly. “Going crazy over a f—ing Space. Don’t play with me. What the f—. Stop playing. That’s all I’m gonna motherf—ing say.”
Offset later admitted he had lied.

A month after Offset accused Cardi B of cheating, the couple teamed up for their single “Jealousy.” The track’s cover art featured an image of Cardi B with her hand in Offset’s face as she turns to walk away from her husband.
The couple even celebrated their fifth wedding anniversary in September. Offset had his and Cardi B’s home adorned with stunning bouquets of pink flowers and dozens of candles.
“Thank you for the flowers, the empowerment, the protection and for being a great father to our children… I love so many things about you,” the “Bodak Yellow” rapper wrote on Instagram.
She continued: “I love the fact that I’m with a grown ass man that’s going to provide, protect and help both of us GROW and can handle my mouth, my attitude, my confidence my weakness and all this ASS!!”
In his own Instagram post, Offset said: “Since I met you I grown to become a better man no matter what you have my back and I can trust you with my life blessed to have a loyal strong woman on my side…you are my safe place in this crazy world.”
