Rapper Megan Thee Stallion is no stranger to successfully battling it out with other artists in cyphers or public rap beefs, but it seems she may have finally met her match — and he comes in the form of her tuxedo Maine Coon kitten named 9.

On Tuesday, the rapper posted a TikTok set to her recent song TYG featuring the cat scurrying frenetically around her home, attacking her phone and smacking chips out of her hand.

“Why nobody told me having a cat was insane? I got a Maine Coon and I ain’t been feeling safe ever since I got this m*****f***er,” she says in the video. In the caption, though, she wishes her feline tormentor a happy National Cat Day.

The comments on her TikTok post are knowingly sympathetic, and they all seem to say the same thing: with a tuxedo Maine Coon, this kind of behavior is “paw” for the course. The Globe is here to break down the drama.

WHAT IS A MAINE COON?

Megan may be a Houston Hottie, but Maine Coons are native New Englanders.

As their name suggests, Maine Coons are a domesticated cat breed native to Maine, where they are the official state cat. The cats tend to have thick, bushy fur befitting frigid New England winters, leading early settlers to wonder if tabby Maine Coons were the product of mating between raccoons and cats. Their large size and typically friendly demeanor have resulted in the breed’s nickname, “the gentle giants.”

The clips that Megan posted show a cat that is anything but gentle. As a number of the commenters attested, Maine Coons are especially high-energy as kittens, with many owners saying their personalities are more similar to dogs than other cats.

It’s also rumored that tuxedo cats tend to be more energetic and aggressive than cats of other color markings, but there’s not much hard data to support this theory.

WHAT IS HAPPENING BETWEEN MEGAN AND HER CAT?

Megan introduced 9 to her fans back in March when she posted a video of the kitten strolling around her running shower to her Instagram story.

“Lol wait i thought cats didn’t like water!” she wondered in the caption.

While it’s true that most cats dislike water, Maine Coons are able swimmers that love playing in water.

Since then, 9 has clearly been busy making himself at home with his patient cat mom, as evidenced by the combative habits displayed in Megan’s recent TikTok.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR MEGAN AND 9?

Luckily, as one commenter put it, “cats match their owner’s energy” — and 9 seems to be a welcome if lovably hyperactive addition to Megan’s growing family, which currently also includes six dogs and a lizard named Billiam.

One of Megan’s dogs, a French bulldog named 4oe who joined her on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon in May, currently has his own Instagram account. Fans who crave more of 9′s antics can hold out hope that the rapper will give her latest furry friend the same treatment.
