In his birthday post, Felton shared a photo of Anstey dressed as a wizard during his appearance in the first ‘Harry Potter’ film
Tom Felton is honoring his grandfather with a magical shoutout.
The Harry Potter alumnus, 36, seemingly wished his grandfather and British geophysicist Nigel Anstey a happy 97th birthday on Instagram by sharing a fun throwback photo of Anstey on the set of the Harry Potter films along with a more recent photo of the pair.
Felton kicked off his post with a sweet snap of him sitting down and chatting with his grandfather as the older man grinned. The grandfather-grandson duo appeared to be in a restaurant or dining place as Anstey held a menu in his left hand.
He then shared a picture of his grandfather in wizard clothing during his brief cameo on the set of one of the Harry Potter films. Anstey could be seen wearing a cloak and wizard’s hat on his head as he smiled in the photo, which was cropped next to a photo of Felton at Comic-Con.
“my Gramps – 97yrs young,” he captioned the photo, adding, “He’s a wizard too x.”
The post comes about four years after the actor initially revealed that Anstey, who is his maternal grandfather, made a cameo in 2001’s Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. He shared a photo of the geophysicist during the Quidditch game scene in the movie on Instagram back in March of 2020.
Alongside the photo, he wrote, “This is Lee Jordan….and my grandpa, my real actual grandpa (on the left) x.”

In the scene, Anstey could be seen sitting next to Richard Harris, who played Hogwarts headmaster Professor Albus Dumbledore in the first two Harry Potter films before Michael Gambon took over the role following Harris’ death in 2002.
Anstey played a Hogwarts professor in the movie, and also appeared in other scenes besides the Quidditch game, such as when the film’s main characters, Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe), Ron Weasley (Rupert Grint), Hermione Granger (Emma Watson) and Draco Malfoy (Felton), are all seen entering the Great Hall for the first time.
One year later, Felton celebrated his grandfather’s appearance in the scene again while rewatching the film on Instagram with fans. He excitedly called out his relative as he came on the screen.
“That’s my grandpa again! The guy with the beard,” Felton said in the video. “White beard! Huge beard right next to Lee Jordan. And there’s me again.”
“It’s a family thing, mental! Mental!,” he added.
