Allen confessed to being the Zodiac killer, supported by compelling circumstantial evidence and details from the Seawater family.
The Seawater family alleges being taken along to murder locations, linking Allen to Zodiac crimes he may have committed.
Allen’s arrest for child molestation in 1974 coincided with the end of the Zodiac killings, further supporting his potential guilt.
This Is The Zodiac Speaking was released on Netflix on October 23, 2024. The much anticipated true-crime series consisted of three stunning episodes, and they are all available to watch now. The documentary made some shocking revelations about the main suspect in the case, Arthur Leigh Allen, and the case against him feels credible as the information comes from people who knew him well.
David Fincher’s true crime masterpiece, Zodiac, also focused on Arthur Leigh Allen as the probable Bay Area serial killer, and his movie is mentioned numerous times in the documentary. The family friends who knew Allen actually reveal that they were taken to some of the murder locations by him, and Fincher’s movie helped them piece together that he probably was the Zodiac killer.

The Netflix true-crime documentary focuses on the Seawater family, who were children and former pupils of Arthur Leigh Allen, and they appear in This Is The Zodiac Speaking and reveal some pretty compelling circumstantial evidence against him. David Seawater, Connie Seawater, and Don Seawater were all close to Allen, and it’s clear to see how conflicted they all are, even now. Connie alludes to Allen potentially confessing to the Zodiac crimes, and reveals that she even asked him years later, and Allen said if he told her, he’d have to kill her, which granted, could’ve been a joke, but all the other evidence points towards there being a lot of truth to the statement.
David got a more definitive answer when he quizzed Allen about the murders. Allen was gravely ill in 1992, and his mother urged David to reach out to her son. When he did, Allen shockingly admitted to drugging his sister, Connie, and sexually assaulting her years ago. David clearly always had his suspicions that Allen was the Zodiac, and this striking admission about the assault on his sister prompted him to ask the big question: Was Arthur Leigh Allen the Zodiac killer? David reveals in the documentary that Allen did answer the question and, in fact, confessed that he was the Zodiac killer. Allen died not long after this alleged confession.
The Evidence Against Allen Is Quite Compelling And He Probably Was The Zodiac Killer
The confession is obviously shocking enough on its own merit, and the Seawater family do come across as credible people, but there is also other circumstantial evidence that backs up their claims. The Seawater family reveal that they were taken to some of the Californian locations where the Zodiac murders took place, and these memories were reignited when David Fincher’s Zodiac was released in theaters back in 2007. Fincher, always known to be a perfectionist in his work, made sure he used the exact murder locations in his movie, and this triggered the Seawater’s memory when they saw it in theaters. And, even more shockingly, they believe Allen might’ve taken them along while he committed certain murders.
The double murder of Robert Domingos and Linda Edwards in early June 4, 1963, wasn’t officially accredited to the Zodiac killer, but the attacks do bare a striking resemblance to his particular modus operandi. The Seawater family reckon they were possibly taken along while Allen did the horrible deed. In the documentary, they tell a particular story involving Allen turning up at their home to take them on a day trip to Tajiguas Beach back in 1963. However, when they arrived at the location, Allen scurried off somewhere, only to return with suspiciously red-colored hands. He also appeared to be in a state of panic, and hurried them into the car before fleeing the scene. Of course, childhood memories can be misinterpreted, and as the years go by, they fade somewhat, but the Seawater family are quite adamant about the legitimacy of this story.
Allen was arrested for child molestation in 1974, and this led to the Zodiac murders stopping altogether, and this is yet another compelling piece of evidence that potentially points to his guilt. However, just because Allen was responsible for a heinous crime like this, it doesn’t mean he was capable of murder. But, the fact that the murders did stop is rather odd, especially as they were so frequent before Allen was jailed. This Is The Zodiac Speaking does a very good job of showing a softer side to Arthur Leigh Allen, but instead of this pointing to his potential innocence, it just confirms how conflicted the man was. He could be an inspirational teacher and role model, while also being capable of serial murder. The two things don’t appear to go hand in hand, but they just might in this case. While the Zodiac murders remain an unsolved crime, this documentary does put forward a strong case that Arthur Leigh Allen was more likely than not responsible for the brutal Bay Area murders.
